💧 Unlike traditional models, which release hot air out of a vent or collect it in a water reservoir, heat pump dryers recycle waste heat 🔄 inside the machine, making them a much more energy-efficient alternative. ⚡Tumble dryers based on heat-pump technology can cut energy consumption by 60% compared to conventional models. This significant reduction in energy means lower carbon footprint and utility costs for households. With more efficient tumble dryers, Europe could save up to 15 TWh of electricity by 2040 - 2.5 times annual energy consumption of Malta! 🔌 Learn more in our manifesto👇 https://lnkd.in/dHEiJg77

Last week, during the CIGRE Paris Session 2024, our colleague Lizeth Tamayo presented our paper on 'Experiences of Distributed Energy Resources Integration in the Colombian Energy Market.' This paper, prepared by Lina Acevedo and me, highlights Colombia's progress in integrating distributed energy resources (DER) to align with Paris Agreement commitments. The transformation involves updating the political and regulatory framework to incentivize investment through market incentives, promoting innovation, and exploring the role of Distribution System Operators. However, challenges such as low DER penetration, the need for a stronger institutional framework, and advancements in technology remain.

The Increasing Equitable Access to Heat Pump Water Heaters paper by Advanced Water Heating Initiative (AWHI) shares methods for overcoming barriers to adopting heat pump water heaters (HPWHs) in low-to-moderate income households and disadvantaged communities. The goal is to ensure they can benefit from the long-term energy savings, emissions reductions, and financial benefits that HPWHs provide. This paper was created in collaboration with AWHI’s equity-focused task group and co-organizers from New Buildings Institute, Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP), and Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance. As we enter the new year, the imperative to hasten our journey to net zero is evident in energy trends for 2024. Looking ahead, Channa Karunaratne talks to the Energy Managers Association, where he discusses three key areas that are poised for accelerated changes: heat networks, grid infrastructure, and the expansion of renewable energy sources. 🔥 Heat Networks: 2024 marks a turning point for heat networks, supported by recent legislation like the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill and the Energy Security Bill. Our towns and cities are poised for large-scale heat network roll-outs, empowering local authorities and the private sector to decarbonise their buildings and places. 🔗 Grid Infrastructure: A targeted approach to regional grids will be crucial in lowering carbon emissions. Recognising variations between regions, collaboration between national infrastructure providers and local authorities will drive the installation of green energy sources, aligning with the demand for cleaner electricity. 💨 On-Shore Wind Power: The conversation around on-shore wind gains momentum as we aim for an 80% renewable energy share by 2050. Balancing aesthetics and climate imperatives will be a key focus. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ejgf-YcV #SustainableLegacies #EnergyTransition

Sufficiency, as a tool in the energy transition is missing from European strategies. How can policy be developed to support the concept and integrated it into local policy instruments? Our Advisory Partner Energy Cities discussed this matter at the Capacity Building Event held in Besançon on the 5th & 6th of June through interviews with stakeholders and partners.
