I help executive teams in high growth companies ($5-150M) fix stubborn growth problems & speed up great results.
Not getting the results you want When you know a lot, it’s hard to remember what it was like to know less. (The technical name is Curse of Knowledge.) One of my clients has a struggling sales team. Theirs is a complex, big-ticket sale with a steep learning curve. They’ll see results faster if they shrink the focus. Like NFL teams w a rookie quarterback, when you simplify your book you give people some wins, you clarify what to pay attention to and make accountability easier. Not getting the results you want? Simplify your playbook. #leadership #personaldevelopment

It’s always fun when I notice that the concepts I’m teaching kids on the ball field are applicable to business. In this photo, I was talking to a player who hits a lot of home runs, but he also swings at a lot of bad pitches. I was telling him that only 2% of MLB home runs are hit off pitches that are outside of the strike zone, and he probably won’t get many solid hits if he keeps swinging at bad pitches. In business, especially in construction, we really have to understand what kind of projects are inside the “strike zone” and then focus on hitting those out of the park, rather than swinging at every pitch that comes in. One of things I did in business was reviewed new opportunities as a team to determine if it was in or out of our strike zone and why. This exercise not only helped align our team on what to look for, but it also empowered team members to say no to new business that was too risky. What are ways you’ve increased your chances of hitting home runs in business? #strategy #coaching #constructionmanagement #leadership

Mentorship leadership: The recent appointment of Dan Pitcher as the Offensive Coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals echoes a fundamental leadership principle often emphasized in military contexts: "Mission First, People Always." His journey in the realm of sports underscores the universality of this principle, reminding leaders in every field about the crucial balance between mission objectives and the well-being of their team. Leadership is more than strategy and execution. It's about the people you guide and the relationships you build. Pitcher's path, marked by his connection with his team and understanding of the game, highlights the essence of true leadership. It's not just about leading the charge towards a goal but valuing those who journey with you. Every leadership role comes with a mission — objectives that define the direction and purpose of the team. Whether guiding a football team to victory or steering a corporate project, the mission provides a clear target. However, the mission is not just a set of goals; it's the heartbeat of the team's effort, inspiring and driving everyone toward success. The phrase "people always" underlines the importance of the human element in leadership. A leader's ability to connect, understand, and value their team members is crucial. Pitcher's relationship with players like Joe Burrow and his broader team at the Bengals illustrates this perfectly. Recognizing each member's unique contribution fosters a sense of belonging and commitment, indispensable for achieving any mission. The real challenge for leaders is balancing the mission with people. This mission/people balance means aligning the team's talents and motivations with the mission's objectives while ensuring an environment where everyone feels valued and heard. It's about building a culture where the mission is pursued as a goal and a collective journey that respects and nurtures every individual involved. As new leaders embark on their journeys, remember the lesson from Dan Pitcher's appointment: success lies in achieving the mission through a people-centric approach. By putting the mission first and valuing people always, leaders can create an environment of trust, collaboration, and excellence. #leadership #isr #nationalsecurity #intelligence #NASIC #nsic https://lnkd.in/exB2GKHh
