KIRCHHOFF Automotive and thyssenkrupp Steel Europe make a clear commitment to sustainability and climate protection: They have signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen their existing strategic partnership and reduce CO2 emissions. From the second half of 2026, thyssenkrupp Steel Europe plans the supply of bluemint® Steel, a mass-balanced product with a reduced CO2 footprint, to KIRCHHOFF Automotive. "By using modern, CO2-reduced steels, we are taking a further step towards more sustainability in our products. The majority of our CO2 footprint is caused by the use of the material we process. By using bluemint® steel from thyssenkrupp Steel, we will further reduce this and thus contribute to climate protection," said CEO J. Wolfgang Kirchhoff at the signing of the memorandum of understanding. #kirchhoffautomotive #makingmobilitysafe #sustainability #bluemint®Steel #CO2Reduction

RecHycle Collaborators: The European Steel Association (EUROFER): EUROFER is at the forefront of driving sustainability in the steel sector. They have been actively promoting green steel production techniques and advocating for policies that support decarbonisation. Eurofer emphasises the use of recycled steel as a key component in the production process, reducing the reliance on raw materials and minimising environmental impact. By employing advanced technologies and processes, Eurofer is setting a remarkable example for others to follow. ArcelorMittal: one of the largest steel producers globally, is dedicated to developing and implementing sustainable steel practices. They are investing in breakthrough technologies like carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) to significantly reduce CO2 emissions from steelmaking. Additionally, ArcelorMittal is exploring hydrogen-based processes as an alternative to traditional coal-based methods, thereby achieving a substantial reduction in carbon footprint. Their commitment to innovation and sustainability is transforming the steel industry. The European Steel Technology Platform (ESTEP): ESTEP acts as a catalyst for collaboration among steel industry stakeholders, research organisations, and academia. Through joint research and development projects, ESTEP is driving the adoption of low-carbon technologies and processes in steel production. By fostering knowledge sharing and innovation, they are accelerating the transition towards sustainable and efficient steel manufacturing practices. #greensteel #cleanenergy #renewableenergy #greenfuture #climatechange #decarbonisation

📣 SSAB and Wibe Group in partnership on fossil-free steel Wibe Group and SSAB have reached an agreement on deliveries of fossil-free steel to be used in Wibe Group’s cable management systems, such as cable ladders and cable trays. The move fits seamlessly with both companies’ ambition to reduce carbon emissions and is a natural step in their long-standing collaboration. As part of the commitment, Wibe Group will start to receive small batches of steel produced without carbon emissions in 2026, with volumes scaling-up annually as SSAB’s fossil-free production capacity increases. By using the fossil-free steel material, Wibe Group will be able to reduce the carbon emission footprint by up to 90% on the respective products. Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/eE9QBcEi

German government commits to decarbonization support for ArcelorMittal The German government has pledged €2.5 billion ($2.73 billion) in financing to decarbonize steel production at ArcelorMittal's Bremen and Eisenhüttenstadt plants, as soon as funding approval is granted by Brussels. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection intends to support ArcelorMittal's DRIBE project for the transition to production using green hydrogen-based direct reduced iron feedstock, initially produced in Bremen. ArcelorMittal has applied to the Brussels authorities for financial support in 2021. Reiner Blaschek, Chief Executive Officer of ArcelorMittal Germany, said in a statement that ArcelorMittal is ready to move forward on the decarbonization path. "At our sites in Bremen and Eisenhüttenstadt, we are taking concrete steps to prepare for the construction of plants as far as possible before the EU funding commitment. This will help us to realize the change in the way of production, which requires a complete change of technology. As soon as all approvals are in place and conditions are favorable, we can prepare the next phase and start implementation quickly," he added. https://lnkd.in/dnTD2Wr6

Soon ready! The construction of our new vertical continuous caster is running at full speed at our factory in Le Creusot, France and this will be one of Industeel’s most important investments ever. Main project objectives: - Reduce the production steps by avoiding an intermediate rolling phase. - Reduce our energy consumption and therefore our CO2 emissions. - Reduce our production times. The project is well on time, the start is scheduled for spring 2025 and the first years an output of 30.000 tons is expected which then will gradually be ramped up to 50,000 tons. By combining performance, quality, competitiveness and decarbonization, the Creusot site opens the way to new horizons! #VerticalContinuousCasting #steel #stainlesssteel ArcelorMittal France ArcelorMittal Europe ArcelorMittal

Together for more sustainability! How can emissions be reduced in industrial sheet metal processing? This question was addressed last week by our colleagues Florian Dahlke, Werner Fidler and Lewin Preuß together with the HA-BE Gehäusebau team. As one of the leading steel service center companies in Europe, we at thyssenkrupp Materials Processing Europe process many thousand tonnes of steel products every year at 11 locations. Some of this is also for the 75-year-old family-owned company Ha-Be Gehäusebau, which has sites in Germany, China and the USA. How can emissions in this process chain be reduced sustainably 🌡 ? On this topic, the thyssenkrupp Materials Processing team presented its own new options for precisely determining the product carbon footprint (PCF) at delivery item level for delivered input material. PCF information is an essential piece of information for steel processors - in order to pursue their own net zero strategies and also to accurately meet the emission requirements of their customers. Our emissions verification includes all emissions from "Cradle to Gate" and can be transmitted digitally to the customer. With this option, we are already in a position to gradually realign our supply chain 🌍 on the basis of the additional decision dimension PCF. Sustainable steel processing? Let us talk! https://lnkd.in/e-5hxeqG #thyssenkrupp #materialsprocessing #sustainabilityl #service #co2 #emission

Sometimes #LESS is more, sometimes #LESS can be less Last week the Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl (Federation of German Steel Industry) with the #BMWK introduced their indication for the classification of low emission steel. MORE: It’s great to see that standards are being proposed to address the production methods and availability of primary and secondary steel. This will make it easier to compare materials and their contribution to decarbonization. At the same time, it will help prioritize investments and create a fairer playing field for producers. LESS: After conversing with > 200 customers, my impression is that this approach is too complex and oriented towards producers, not customers and their goals. In my opinion: #LESS is an important step in the right direction, we should get on our way to support a standardized classification. The success of this standard will depend on the demand following this guidelines. At the same time, the biggest task is to meet the customers and accompany them in their sustainability journeys to create 1,5° conform transition plans. Our #greenability approach provides transparency on CO2e content of materials and offers alternatives to move towards a more sustainable future directing our customers to relevant resources and information. My team and I are happy to consult you on your transformation journey.
