'#Infillstations are an increasingly popular solution in #UScities whose #railtransit systems were originally designed to shuttle #suburban #commuters to and from #downtown. At a time when laying new tracks can be prohibitively expensive, they’re an affordable way to make the most of #infrastructure that’s already in place. Transit systems in #Washington, DC, the #BayArea, #Boston and #Chicago have all opened infill stations in recent years, and more are in planning. It’s a pattern that can be seen in the Bay Area, where #BART trains skip over much of #EastOakland, a #lowincome area with one of the highest population densities in the region. Activists there have launched a campaign to construct a new station in the San Antonio neighborhood, in the middle of a 2.7-mile stretch of tracks without access to the system. At a time when suburbs were largely #White and central cities were mostly #Black, it was clear whom these systems prioritized as they skipped past potential riders in transit-dependent neighborhoods.' #publictransport #urbanmobility #inovation #class #race

Lakeview could be a spectacular new addition to Mississauga, but without crucial road improvements and, more importantly, enhanced transit options, it will create a congestion nightmare in southeast Mississauga. Watch my short video here: https://lnkd.in/ghaE8pJA. The current council, which includes four members now running for Mayor, approved a development for over 25,000 residents without planning for any transit or transportation enhancements. We need to address this urgently. As Chair of Transit Alliance, I understand the transformative benefits of effective transit systems and know how to implement them. My solutions focus on comprehensive transit plans, including Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT), seamless integration with GO Transit, and increased bus frequency during peak hours. Additionally, we need road expansions, smart traffic management, and robust pedestrian and cycling infrastructure to reduce car dependence. Through public-private partnerships, community involvement, and innovative funding strategies, we can ensure Lakeview becomes a model of sustainable urban development. Let's work together to create a future where Lakeview thrives without compromising the quality of life for its residents. #briancrombieca #briancrombie #voteforcrombie

A vibrant downtown is a positive reflection of the surrounding city — it leaves a lasting impression on those choosing to visit, to live, to stay, and to contribute to the future of the region. As Sacramento continues its evolution towards an intensely mixed-use mosaic at its center — the same formula which serves thriving cities around the world — we must lead with the premise that building a desirable, attainable, and truly LIVABLE urban neighborhood at our heart will be foundational to the success of California's capital region and to the long-term sustainability of our community. Over the past year, Downtown Sacramento Partnership teamed up with 2023 State of Downtown keynote speaker Brent Toderian to observe conditions in the downtown Sacramento market, facilitate dialogue with a multidisciplinary group of residents, housing creators, urban livability skeptics, and regulatory experts from near and far. The themes which emerged have taken form in the Downtown Sacramento Livability Strategy which highlights the significant progress being made in Sacramento (California's first pro-housing designated jurisdiction), and emphasizes areas where we must do more if we are going to dramatically increase efficient, centrally-located housing opportunities and build a destination of choice for current and future downtown residents. This is not a report, or a study... we have plenty of those already. It’s a strategy that compliments, and intends to add gravity to, existing plans such as Sacramento’s 2040 General Plan and Central City Specific Plan. This is a mindset shift to where downtowns must be if we want to open the floodgates of housing production — meeting the fundamental need we currently fall short on — and embracing a more resilient model for social wellness and civic, environmental, and economic sustainability through the creation of truly livable central neighborhoods.

Is New York City really the “greatest city in the world” anymore? Lately, I can’t help but wonder what’s happening to this iconic city. The streets are becoming filthier by the day, traffic has become unbearable, and getting a taxi or driving anywhere feels almost impossible. We’ve always known New York to be fast-paced and crowded, but it seems like the city is spiraling into chaos. Why is it that a city with so many resources and reputation can’t seem to get its basic infrastructure under control? Is it just me, or have others noticed this steady decline in the quality of life here? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences. #NYC #UrbanLife #CityProblems #Infrastructure #QualityOfLife

📰 Denver News: Colfax Avenue Transformation 📰 A massive construction project has begun on Colfax Avenue, transforming one of Denver’s most iconic streets. This $300 million project will create dedicated bus lanes, enhancing public transit from downtown Denver to Aurora. However, the work is expected to cause traffic disruptions through 2027. There’s also concern over the impact on local businesses, with city funds allocated to support them, though some argue it’s not enough. #mortgagenews #denvernews #BradfordRealEstateDenver #BradfordRealEstate #coloradoliving #welcomehome #RealEstate #homesold #listingsold #denvermarket #DenverCo #denverrealestate #realestatecolorado #sellingdenver #soldbybradford #coloradorealestate #denverrealty #denvercolorado #denverhomes #denverrealtor #denverrealestateagent #realestatedenver #denvernow

🇺🇸 Releasing nearly 7,000 walking person's view images from North Corktown in Detroit, Michigan. We have mapped about 55 km of sidewalks in the area. 📍 https://lnkd.in/gDb2_xSM #Detroit is not typically known as a #walkable city. The city is often characterized by its car-centric infrastructure, sprawling layout, and areas with limited #pedestrian amenities. While there are some neighborhoods in Detroit, such as Downtown, Midtown, and Corktown, that offer more walkable environments, much of the city lacks quality pedestrian infrastructure and dense, mixed-use development that supports high levels of #walkability. However, there have been a growing number of urban revitalization projects aimed at improving walkability in specific areas. For instance, the QLine streetcar system and the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy aim to create more pedestrian-friendly spaces. Initiatives by the City of Detroit and Midtown Detroit, Inc. and the revitalization of Eastern Market have made some of the neighborhoods more walkable and vibrant. The Detroit Future City framework outlines long-term strategies for creating more walkable neighborhoods across the city.
