Working on something for founders with Eric Lay at the intersection of community, collaboration, and connection. Building a community is building a reality. It allows you to differentiate the world in a way that feels authentic: creating a space for people to belong and become part of something greater than themselves. We did this at Aceocial and Toronto Tech Fest broadly, bringing together over 20,000+ like minded individuals in innovation and technology over the past year, but we need more opportunities in our ecosystem for founders to experience this deeply. We need to reward founders here in Canada who are ambitious, selfless, and adventurous. We must reinforce these traits, and nurture their appreciation. I truly believe we can design an environment that aligns status seeking behavior towards these shared characteristics. More to be revealed soon. (Enough clues? It’s been a few months since I kicked off the role of Partnerships Specialist at alx_africa . Let’s just say, I’m finding my feet – in a marathon! Every day, I’m in conversations with brilliant minds across businesses, associations, educational institutions, and even government entities. The mission? Simple (but not so simple): to bridge the global tech talent gap and empower the tech leaders of tomorrow through partnerships committed to the growth and development of African youth. Through these collaborations, we’re creating opportunities that provide young Africans with the skills, resources, and platforms they need to thrive in the tech-driven future. I love that I get to juggle creating long-term strategies with nurturing key relationships, and analyzing results. Some days feel like "Checkmate!" while others are more "Hmm, let’s rethink that move." But isn't that the beauty of growth? Finding my rhythm has been challenging, insightful, and dare I say, pretty fun! I’m continuously learning, adjusting, and celebrating small wins because I know every interaction is a step closer to our larger goal. If you recently started a new role? “If you don’t love change, you’re in the wrong industry.” I use this phrase constantly, and constantly remind myself of it. Glenn O’Donnell, a simply amazing human whose life we recently celebrated this week, would say this regularly as we talked about how to help leaders harness and thrive amidst change in technology. This past month we underwent a lot change at G2 to restructure how we maintain and grow G2’s taxonomy of software and services, engage with & support our customers, and share thought leadership rooted in our powerful insights.   However, our new structure means I’m stepping away from G2 for my next PEAK on 8/16.   We use the PEAK acronym to share our values at G2 because as individuals and as a team, we’re always striving and climbing to reach new heights; and we also use it to talk about taking steps outside of G2. (I’m a pretty literal person at times, so I checked a race off my bucket list and ran the Delta Dental Mt Washington Road Race this summer - here’s a view from the PEAK!)   I’ve been focused on supporting my peers and team with the transition, and speaking with customers and partners these past several weeks; and will continue to until my last day. Afterwards, I’ll take a break and focus on my 2 favorite C’s: connecting and curiosity. While I have some thoughts about what's next, it’s those 2 C’s that will make it great. I am deeply grateful for the opportunities and experiences I’ve had at G2; I don’t know how I packed so much learning into this time! But above all, I’m grateful for the people, including my incredible team, a set of peers I've been proud to work with, and a leader who has helped me grow. I have many thank yous to share over the upcoming weeks, but didn’t want to overload one post.
