We are proud to publish today our inaugural analysis of the market for Jurisdictional REDD+ credits (J-REDD+). Available to subscribers this 30-page report and supporting model, analyses in detail the future supply of carbon credits from some 23 J-REDD+ programmes as well as potential sources of demand. The analysis uses in-house geospatial modelling to estimate historic emission levels, emission reduction scenarios, and the HFLD bonus, coupled with policy risk metrics and J-REDD+ readiness factors for each country. Adjustments are made for the nesting of REDD+ projects within jurisdictional programmes, and the use of credits by host governments against their NDCs. Overall, our analysis shows that currently known J-REDD+ programmes have the potential to contribute nearly 15% global credit supply. Advanced Purchase Agreements from the likes of the LEAF Coalition will absorb some of this supply, but there will still be significant volumes available to the rest of the market. By design, jurisdictional mechanisms create large scale solutions. These have been promoted as the primary way of avoiding the challenges of leakage associated with project-based REDD+, and are able to deliver large scale forest protection. However, they also have the potential to create large volumes of credits. Both sides of the market need to come together for the true benefits of jurisdictional approaches to be realised. Director of Corporate Engagement, Blue Whales Blue Skies | Responsible Shipping | Marine Conservation
Affie Ellis Courtney Shephard Shane Schulz at the Special Institute on #CarbonCapture, Utilization, and Storage addressed: > Regulatory frameworks for CCUS infrastructure, Class VI permitting, and CO2 pipeline siting; > President Biden’s “Justice40 Initiative” to provide benefits to vulnerable communities "marginalized by underinvestment and overburdened by pollution" - https://lnkd.in/gtidvxhk; > Why project developers must positively engage with communities and landowners; and > Working with federally recognized tribes- "Tribes can administer environmental programs under the 'treatment as a state' provisions of environmental laws such as the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act, giving them greater autonomy as separate sovereigns". #climatechange #environmentaljustice
Last week, I joined colleagues Courtney Shephard and Shane Schulz to present on issues related to carbon capture, utilization and storage at a conference hosted by the Foundation for Natural Resources and Enegy Law. Thanks to Tara Righetti and others for organizing the interesting and informative event!

NTIA Launches New Permitting and Mapping Tool The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) launched a new mapping tool in an effort help grant recipients and others deploying infrastructure identify permit requirements and avoid potential environmental impacts when connecting a particular location to broadband service. The "Permitting and Environmental Information Application" is designed to help federal broadband grant recipients and subgrantees identify and understand the types of permits they will need and plan routes for their broadband deployments. This help includes identifying permit requirements early, initiating pre-application coordination with permitting agencies, and avoiding environmental impacts. https://lnkd.in/esyDAFUs --- #ftth #fibertothehome #infrastructure #broadband #network #fibernetworks #fibernetwork #fiberoptic #telecom
