Yesterday, I attended the Oregon Business Plan session at the Moda Center, convened by the Oregon Business Council (OBC). Governor Tina Kotek attended for the whole day and spent considerable time on stage talking about economic and workforce development, and workforce housing. With what all we have going on: the CHIPS Act, EDA Techhub designations and awards, and all the DoD SBIR/STTR Program Office money coming into Oregon and the EDA timber grants, the next 30 years can be incredibly productive and prosperous for this state and the region. When Peter Zeihan spoke to the region's leaders in Summer of 2022 he said: "....this region has so much promise, the only thing political leaders can do is F--k It Up." There are a lot of things that need to be fixed; the list is pretty long. And The Atlantic author Derek Thompson spent a lot of time critiquing the "liberal agenda" and talking about how difficult it is to get anything done in "blue" cities and in "blue" states as he critiqued our industrial base when he said: "...we don't build what we invent." He pointed at "over-regulation" as the chief culprit. I trust our political leadership now appreciates the lessons learned from the “experiment” and will make the right adjustments to allow for real change, not incrementalism. This includes sensible policies, procedures, rules, laws, and services that truly capitalize on this confluence of opportunities occurring right here, right now. Our future depends on getting it right this time.

As Bill Miller III pointed out in 2017, humans are notoriously bad at contextualizing the relevance and potential of new technologies. This gap is especially wide for groundbreaking concepts of an epistemic nature – that is, inventions that change the way we think about and relate to information and each other. In his latest post, Bill Miller IV picks up this theme and runs with it here: https://lnkd.in/gNU92a2z
