Today is Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Awareness Day! #FASD is a lifelong disability that affects the brain and body of people who were exposed to alcohol in the womb. Today is an opportunity to listen and learn from the experiences of individuals with FASD. By educating ourselves and others, we can champion their rights and help shape a more inclusive society. This year's theme, "Everyone Plays a Part", encourages everyone to get involved and take part in advocating for individuals with FASD and supporting the families who care for them. Here's how you can take part and show your support: https://buff.ly/3hL8QOF #FASDMonth2024 #DisabilityServices

September is FASD Awareness Month! Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is a lifelong disability that affects the brain and body of those exposed to alcohol before birth. FASD often presents as an invisible disability. While a child with FASD may outwardly look like other children, their brain works much differently, which can lead to daily challenges. Each case is unique, and each person with FASD will have different needs and symptoms. Our "All about FASD: A guide for adoptive and permanency families" is a great resource for parents and caregivers looking for guidance on how to support the needs of someone with FASD: https://loom.ly/-Ay3FxI #FASD #FASDAwareness

It’s Neurodiversity Celebration Week, and we wanted to shine a spotlight on our MC STOMP national agenda. The agenda aims to stop the over-medication of people with a learning disability, autism or both, in multicultural settings. As the West Midlands is diverse and includes many of the most challenged, deprived, and vulnerable communities, patients are more likely to be over-represented in mental health pathways. This makes them more likely to receive treatment with psychotropic medicines, which in some cases may not be appropriate. MC STOMP aims to: 💊 Reduce overprescribing of antipsychotics by increasing structured medication reviews. 🗣️ Encourage the implementation of positive behavioural support plans as an alternative form of treatment. What a piece of work and a HUGE achievement this was. Working alongside the Department of Corrections and Pacific University, we conducted a robust research project that was meant to be 3 years but turned into 5 years thanks to Covid and our access to facilities. But we did it! Almost exactly one year ago - October 2023, we were published in The Journal of Offender Rehabilitation! Our program is now recognized as evidence-based. Here's what we've gathered below: Increase in: Stress Resistance is needed to cope with trauma. emotional regulation and impulse control. pro-social behaviors and connectedness. improved relationships with family, & relationships with others. Decrease in: Trauma response anxiety, depression, anger, and agitation. Violent & Reactive Behaviors The obsession with one’s own circumstances. #MentalHealthResearch #JusticeReform #EvidenceBased #SocialImpact #PacificUniversity #TraumaInformedCare

Let’s talk about premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), and how this differs to premenstrual syndrome (PMS)… PMDD is a severe, sometimes disabling extension of PMS. Although symptoms of PMDD are similar to PMS, PMDD can present much more intense symptoms that can have a much greater negative impact on your daily activities and quality of life. Up to 75% of women who have their periods may have mild PMS, but PMDD is much less common. It affects only between 3% and 8% of women. Did you know that due to the chronic and repetitive nature of the condition, PMDD is classed as a disability under the Equality Act 2010? Head to @iapmdglobal for more advice and support and be sure to ✨SHARE✨ this post to spread awareness! #simplybettereveryday #simplybetter #pmddawareness

Just attended a game-changing webinar on adolescent substance abuse by Mercy University's IHELP department. 🌟 As a parent and future therapist, this was a major eye-opener! 🚨 Shocked by the teen trends in nicotine, alcohol, and marijuana use. It's crucial we start these conversations early. Learned so much about the dire consequences of substance abuse, which has totally reshaped how I'll talk to my kids about it. 💡 Early intervention and the S2BI strategy are key. It's about open, non-judgmental dialogue. 🗣️ This session has massively boosted my understanding and approach as a parent and LMHC student. Ready to make a difference! 🌱 #AdolescentHealth #SubstanceAbuseAwareness #ParentingTips #FutureTherapist #LMHCStudent #EarlyIntervention #OpenCommunication #S2BIStrategy #MercyUniversity #IHELPWebinar #TeenHealth #DrugAwareness #EducationalSession #ParentalGuidance #TherapistInTraining #MentalHealthMatters #CommunitySupport #YouthEmpowerment #InformedChoices #PreventativeCare #FamilyWellness #HealthyDevelopment #TeenSupport #AwarenessRaising #EmpathyFirst #ChildPsychology
