Enabling Future of Flight @ GE aerospace | Thermal & Mechanical Engineer | Purdue University Alum | Ex-IIT Guwahati
*Hot Off the Press 💥 !!* I’m thrilled to share my latest publication, “Thermal Performance of a Pump-Assisted Capillary Loop Cooler” (https://lnkd.in/gRQ2-tdm) featured in the Journal of Thermal Science and Engineering Applications by ASME (The American Society of Mechanical Engineers). This paper explores the thermal performance of a two-phase capillary cooler, assisted by an upstream mechanical pump, designed for the thermal management of power electronic (PE) modules in automotive applications. As we move towards an all-electric/hybrid-electric future (including aircraft/EV/eVTOLs), PE modules will become increasingly power-dense, making their thermal management a critical reliability factor in the design phase. The paper details the cooler’s unique design and the feedback controls developed to manage a heat load of approximately 1 kW/cm². This work, part of my postdoc journey, would not have been possible without the incredible support of my collaborators Danny Lohan, Shailesh Joshi, Ph.D., Ercan Dede from Toyota Research Institute of North America (TRINA) and Srivathsan Sudhakar, Anali Soto, and Justin A. Weibel from Cooling Technologies Research Center at Purdue University. What comes next? The adventure is only beginning! The exceptional results from this paper have bolstered our confidence, and we have unearthed vast untapped potential in the cooler, which could be utilized to dissipate even more heat from the chip. Stay tuned for more thrilling updates and breakthroughs coming your way ! #ThermalManagement #EV #DataCenters #LiquidCooling #Reliability #PowerElectronics

THERMAL MANAGEMENT ENGINEERING FOR ALL VEHICLE TYPES Join Senior Flexonics at The Battery Show this coming October 7-10, 2024 - Booth #518 located at Huntington Place in Detroit, Michigan. ELECTRONICS THERMAL MANAGEMENT - HEATSINKS FOR INVERTERS Inverters transfer power between the motors and batteries and are one of the critical components in an electric vehicle. The inverter converts DC to AC when power is required to drive the electric motors and converts in the opposite direction during regenerative braking. The main component inside the inverter is a high power switch, and during operation it generates heat. An effective method of cooling the inverter switches is through a liquid cooled heat sink. Our heat sink features our proprietary “Omega” fin design. It is available in both aluminum and copper depending upon the customer’s requirements. Cooling of the inverter components also has become critical in maintaining reliability and efficiency. These new EV heat sinks enhance thermal performance without plugging because the unique shape creates more surface area than a typical straight fin, while still allowing the same sized particles to pass without plugging. Senior Flexonics is a leader in EV thermal management Engineering and fluid conveyance from our experience with ICE power train systems. We are an established industry partner that offers complete engineering, in house testing and large global production capabilities. Don't miss out on your chance to speak with the Senior Flexonics engineering team and learn how we applied our thermal management experience to develop custom heatsinks.
