📖 OPCFHK's Ambassador, Prof Kam Sing Wong🌟, highlights horseshoe crab conservation in the latest column in Ming Pao🌍! Horseshoe crabs, known as "living fossils," have existed on Earth for millions of years, predating even the mighty dinosaurs. Unfortunately, human activities have become a significant threat to their survival, pushing them towards the brink of extinction😥. OPCFHK has always regarded horseshoe crab conservation as a priority. In addition to our "Juvenile Horseshoe Crab Rearing Programme", which has been established for 14 years, we are exploring cross-sectoral collaborations to further support horseshoe crab conservation. In partnership with Prof Chan Ben-mei from the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, we are applying unmanned systems and artificial intelligence technology for horseshoe crab population survey🤖. This technology enables fully automatic path planning across various environments, ensuring efficient coverage of survey areas within the shortest possible time. With sufficient data, the age, species, and behaviour of horseshoe crabs can further be identified 💪. Join us on this exciting journey as we forge diverse partnerships that drive positive change. Together, we can make a positive impact on environmental conservation! #OPCFHK #HorseshoeCrabConservation #CrossSectorCollaboration #UnmannedSystems #ArtificialIntelligence #EnvironmentalConservation #MingPao

Celebrating 50 for 50 #13: Bayonne, NJ. Waves, rising tides, ship wakes, overtopping, and critical infrastructure. This project was nothing short of a challenge. Our team was called to tidal Bayonne Bay during a repair of a pipeline anomaly. This demanding site posed multiple threats, if not at least for human safety. It required an extraordinary understanding of water’s behavior: predicting the unpredictable, including the impact of environmental events and external movements such as ship wakes. The rising tides and waves posed increased hydrodynamic pressure on the solution, requiring the team to be on-site 24/7 for quality control, ensuring the safety of everyone involved. Thanks to their excellent understanding of water and how to control the compound- the project could successfully be completed on time. Nearing the 50th anniversary of the novel invention Portadam®, the DNA of our water control technologies, we have commenced the series 50 for 50: Highlighting 50 of our most remarkable, memorable projects while saluting our team, their knowledge, and experience.

Happy Wednesday everyone! Our typical posting days have been a bit messed up lately but I thought today I'd share some #funfacts about Leap Year since 2024 which is a leap year is coming up soon! 1) The concept of leap years dates back to the time of Julius Caesar, who introduced the Julian calendar in 45 BCE. It was further refined by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582, leading to the Gregorian calendar that we use today. So, every time we experience a leap year, we're following a tradition that's been around for centuries! 2) Leap years help keep our calendars in sync with the Earth's orbit around the sun. Without them, our seasons would slowly shift over time. So, next time you enjoy a beautiful spring day or a cozy winter evening, thank leap years for keeping everything in order! 3) According to an old Irish tradition, women can propose to men on leap day (February 29th). This custom is known as "Bachelor's Day" or "Leap Year Proposal." So, if you've been waiting for the perfect moment to pop the question, leap year might just be your chance! 4) Leap years occur every four years! However, there's an exception: years divisible by 100, but not divisible by 400, are not leap years. It's a fascinating little quirk in our calendar system! #werehiringnow #hiringnow #raleighnc #carync #northcarolina #NorthCarolinajobs #raleighdurham #raleighjobs #downtowncary #caryjobs #trianglenc #trianglencjobs #hvac #hvactechnician #hvaclife #hvacservice #hvaccompany #carync #carynorthcarolina #Caryncbusiness #refrigeration #refrigerationtech #commercialrefrigeration #work #fun #smallbusiness #werehiringnow
