🔍 Raising Awareness: Combatting Abuse Against People with Disabilities Today, I want to shed light on an issue that is often overlooked but deeply significant: the abuse faced by people with disabilities. This vulnerable group experiences various forms of abuse—physical, emotional, financial, and even neglect—at alarmingly high rates. It's crucial for us as professionals and human beings to recognize the signs of such abuse and take proactive steps to prevent it. Here are some ways we can contribute: 1. **Education & Training**: Equip yourself and your team with the knowledge to identify and respond to signs of abuse. 2. **Advocacy**: Use your platform to advocate for stronger policies and protections for people with disabilities. 3. **Support Systems**: Create inclusive environments that foster open communication and support for individuals with disabilities. 4. **Collaboration**: Partner with organizations dedicated to protecting the rights of disabled individuals to amplify impact. Let's use our voices and resources to make a difference. Together, we can create a safer, more inclusive world for everyone. #DisabilityRights #InclusionMatters #EndAbuse #Advocacy #ProfessionalResponsibility #InclusiveWorkplace #HumanRights #AwarenessMatters

CEO | TEDx Speaker | Inclusion Champion | Disability Advocate | DEI & Accessibility Educator | Podcaster-Pushing Forward with Alycia | Believer in Possible! And that's how I roll! Book Me to Speak!
This image has been shared many times over the weekend by advocates, as it should. Regardless of your views, the recent cover of The Economist, depicting a mobility device and questioning ability, is ableism. This kind of imagery perpetuates the old tired myth that someone who uses a mobility device cannot be effective. It shapes public perception on how society values the disabled lived experience. Reminder👇🏼 ✔️ Franklin D. Roosevelt was one of our country’s greatest presidents, led the nation through its toughest times using mobility aids, including a wheelchair. ✔️ Helen Keller was a notable author, activist, and lecturer who was both blind and deaf, co-founded the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). ✔️ Judith Heumann was a global disability rights advocate who was instrumental in creating and implementing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). With over a billion disabled people globally, let's not forget that disability is our common ground NOT the thing that separates us. Ableism in media and politics reinforces negative perceptions about people living with disabilities, ultimately leading to policies and a society that neglect, exclude, and limit us. It's time for a change in this outdated narrative because in the end it benefits all of us. 💡 Join in: What are your thoughts on how we can challenge ableism and promote a more inclusive society? #Inclusion #Diversity #Ableism #Leadership #DisabilityAwareness #Disability #RepresentationMatters #Advocacy #TheEconomist #Ableism

One Cause, One Voice: Partnering for Change in the Intellectual Disabilities Community As I spoke with a new graduate student in Texas this week, I'm reminded of the global challenges that individuals with intellectual disabilities face every day. It’s clear that these challenges are not isolated; they resonate across borders, cultures, and communities. Consider this: one in five people has a disability of some kind. That’s a significant portion of our population—a powerful voting bloc. Imagine what could happen if we united our voices, not just for ourselves, but for those we serve. What if our collective want was simply to be heard, to have people understand that we all "work with what we got"? That the voices of the people we serve are as valuable as our own? The partnerships we form today can help amplify these voices. Together, we can create a world where every individual, regardless of ability, is recognized, respected, and heard. One cause. One voice. Let's make a difference—together. #Inclusion #Partnerships #IntellectualDisabilities #Advocacy #OneVoice

Did you know that July is Disability Pride Month? It's an opportunity to raise awareness of disabilities, start positive conversations and celebrate the diversity and differences of our disabled communities. No matter what the month means to individuals, the main focus is to be proud of being disabled and for people to be unapologetically themselves. So how can you step up as allies this month and beyond? ⚫️ Advocate for flexible work policies 🟤 Support disabled owned businesses ⚪️ Get involved in your Disability ERG ⚫️ Sponsor disabled future leaders 🟤 Review policies and language for ableist standards ⚪️ Remove ableist hiring practices But most importantly, ask your disabled friends, colleagues, and communities how you can best support them in the ways they need. Your work as an ally begins today. #Allyship #Inclusion #DisabilityPrideMonth #InclusionMatters #DisabilityInclusion #DiversityAndInclusion #Equity #Belonging
