Happy Pride Month! 🌈 Pride Month for LGBTQ+ honors the progress made for equal rights and treatment. It also allows time for reflection on the systemic oppression and injustice that still impact LGBTQ+ folks. Inequity harms mental health, and the LGBTQ+ community faces higher rates of mental health struggles due to stigma, discrimination, and bias. Prioritizing self-care—such as connecting with supportive friends, practicing mindfulness, and seeking professional help—is essential for resilience and well-being. Here are some ways to build resiliency and support your friends, coworkers and family. Let's continue to recognize and address these issues every day, not just in June. #PrideMonth #LGBTQ+ #MentalHealth #BetteringLives

The most critical space for LGBTQ+ inclusion in the workplace are schools. Most LGBTQ+ bullying starts in schools, social norms are learnt at schools and students find their agency and voice as budding adults at schools. If your child is old enough to tease and traumatise another child, they are likely old enough to learn about LGBTQ+ inclusion. Schools also need LGBTQ+ teachers. Normalisation requires role models and representation. If you fear that learning about LGBTQ+ community is going to confuse your child, you may perhaps need some of that education yourself. #PRIDE #lgbtq #inclusion

At Pathways Counseling, we strive to provide a safe, affirming environment for LGBTQ+ youth to get mental health support without fear of discrimination. ☺️🏳️🌈 Here are some tips on being an ally: 👂 Actively listen without judgment if a young person comes out to you. Thank them for their trust. 🤝 ❤️ Remind LGBTQ+ youth they are loved, valued and belong. Studies show parental support reduces suicide risk by 40% in LGBTQ youth. 👪 ✊ Shut down homophobic remarks, even casual ones. Set clear boundaries that discrimination won’t be tolerated. 🚫 🧠 Educate yourself on LGBTQ+ terminology and identities so you can be respectful and understand each youth’s experience. 🌈 👩⚕️ Support access to LGBTQ-affirming counseling that nurtures resiliency in the face of stigma they still very much face. 😢 Creating safe communities for LGBTQ+ youth requires all of us putting in the effort. Are you in? Let us know if you have any questions! 😃 #loveislove #pride #LGBTQ #mentalhealth #allyship #supportyouth #counseling
