The EU Digital Services Act (DSA) is the world’s first platform regulation to address societal risks emerging from the use of online platforms. Amongst other challenges, it focuses on tackling the dissemination of illegal content, goods and services online, protecting freedom of expression, and addressing disinformation. The DSA imposes obligations for online intermediaries and platforms (e.g. online marketplaces, social networks, content-sharing platforms, app stores, and online travel and accommodation platforms) according to their role, size and impact in society. Dear Hiring Managers, make entry positions entry! The other day I saw a job post for an entry-level data scientist role. The requirement? Minimum 5 years of experience in LLM... Absolutely absurd. 5 years ago, when I was 2 years into my DS career, the wide use of LLM, as seen today, wasn't even a thing then. Knowing XGBoost, linear regression and K-means was enough to achieve a wide-array of tasks. If you want someone with 5 YoE in LLM, make the position senior! Or, lower the bar so that the requirement reflects the position level. Hire the right candidates, train them, and, even if they don't have 5 YoE in LLM, you'd be amazed what they will eventually bring to the table. 👉 Like this post? 🚀 The verdict is in! 🚀 📉 Employers have always valued portfolios over transcripts, and the value of portfolios is rising among employers. 💼 Employers are more likely to hire candidates who have completed a portfolio. 🎓 Employers with postgraduate education are much more likely to consider hiring folks who have completed a portfolio. ❗ There is no excuse to not have a portfolio if you're looking to advance your career in data science. Aspiring Data Scientists shouldn't apply to 100s of jobs... They should only apply for 10. Here's why: You'll have a lot more success if you 1) Choose a sector(s) you want to work in (e.g., healthcare) 2) Build Tailored Projects for those sectors 3) ONLY APPLY FOR JOBS IN THOSE SECTORS With the right Tailored Projects, this plan will make you a good fit for each role you apply for. This means you only need to apply for 10s of jobs, not 100s. So pick jobs you're interested in, build the right Tailored Projects and then apply to relevant roles.
