I get asked constantly why should I give, does the money really go to communities or to people, what difference can I make? These questions are all valid concerns and as a finance person I understand the reservation to give especially in this economy becuase ever penny counts. But giving to a cause or to a charity is about #hope! So let me answer these questions. 1. Yes your donations if you give to a 501(c)3 charity will go to that charity and reach the people and communities you want to serve but how can you know? Well it's simple really, reading a 990 and an annual report can help you to determine where a charity is spending their funds. In most cases 85% to 90% of funds received go to their programs meaning it is going to help support communities and people. The other 15% to 10% or so is going to fundraising efforts and then Administration costs. 2. As for the difference you can make, a donation can actually change alot but how you decide to give can make a better impact than other ways to give. So let's break it down. A one time gift will make a one time impact. If you choose to make a one time gift the bigger the donation the better. And if you do a one time gift annually that impact can grow year over year for a charity becuase they can rely, budget, and plan for the future. However, a reoccurring gift either weekly or monthly can have significant impact for a charity and the dollar value each month can lead to a healthier revenue stream for a charity. A reoccurring gift allows for a charity to rely, budget, plan and forecast for future impact. So if you are having trouble with how to give, where to give, and if a charity will reach the communities you want to serve, ask me or contact CHC: Creating Healthier Communities, it's what we do after all. Together we can help create healthier communities. Donate today!
Giving to CHC supports our work to create a world where every person in every community can live their healthiest life. You make our work possible: every dollar supports our nonprofit partners who are addressing unmet needs in communities. Our impact is stronger together.
