Last week, together with our partners, we launched #SAMAJ - the South Asian Movement for Accessing Justice. SAMAJ, meaning “society” in some South Asian languages, is a coalition dedicated to uniting voices against sexual violence in South Asia. It believes in the power of a collective, unified approach to create lasting change. Hear from our team on how it all came together ⬇ Learn more about this new coalition, what it aims to achieve, and how you can get involved at equalitynow.org/samaj #SAMAJAgainstSexualViolence #EndSexualViolence #SouthAsia

On this International Day for the Elimination of #Sexual #Violence in Conflict, Justice Rapid Response stands in solidarity with all survivors of conflict-related #SGBV. Because we are aware of what is at stake when #accountability for sexual violence is not guaranteed, we will keep delivering on our commitment to bolster our efforts in the global fight against impunity and promote the rights and access to justice of victims and survivors. In partnership with UN Women, we will continue expanding the number of gender advisors and #SGBV investigators available on the JRR Roster to answer the needs of our partners and promote a gender sensitive approach to justice and accountability processes. May is Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. At InterAct, we honor and celebrate the AAPI community, not just this month but year-round. InterAct services provide support and resources for all ethnicities and genders, including Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. We aim to educate the community and collaborate to reduce the harm it causes. As part of the community, YOU can help raise awareness about issues disproportionately affecting this group, particularly domestic and sexual violence. From the Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence (APIGBV): "Domestic violence is a universal problem, but its cultural expressions differ. Drawing attention to such differences can serve to confirm stereotypes because nuanced complexities are hard to convey, but advocacy that is not rooted in cultural contexts is even more problematic." Abuse in AAPI communities is prevalent, especially among women facing intimate partner violence. APIGV reports that up to 55% of Asian women in the U.S. have experienced physical or sexual violence, and 18% have faced rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner.
