Towards the end of last year I had an opportunity to interview with Tesla this was an Analyst role with Energy Solar and Storage team.
1) Recruiter Phone screen:- Usual screen, and asked a few housekeeping questions
2) Hiring Manager Screen:- In this call I got an insight into the role, the work the team is doing. There was a lot of talk on expanding Solar PV installations and also integrating with the Tesla Powerwall, this role involved collaborating with different utilites and also forming and analyzing new market opportunities of Solar pV and Energy storage devices. This role really interested me becasue of my passion in clean energy and also the understanding and creating the impact of Solar PV, energy storage and interest generated among customers.
Result and Learning:- I didnt clear this round, since this was my first interviews when I had passivley begun looking for new opportunities and wasnt all that confident to give the interview despite giving many interview in the past. My STAR responses were about right but the place where I lacked was diving deep into the job I had done which I should have done a better job at. Post this interview I went back to my drawing board and formulated all my STAR responses and been able to include more details of my experiences, and through this I became more confident. Post this I have also been appreciated for giving in details and diving deep during my interviews, where they say " This is in Detail" and we liked your response, I also started saying it a loud like Situation, Task, Action and Result to get the attention of the interviewer.
My learnings to all those facing interviews and also who are working and are looking to transition for new roles.
Make a note of whatever you do at work at lest at a high level, for me it was being able to tell my I/P statements what I had used to develop my Load Forecast some of which are Weather, Economic Scenarions, DER's data, Usage data, No of customers etc.. .
