Future mobility and digitalisation took on a very different flavour today. After Connected and Automated Driving yesterday, today I was privileged to moderate a session on mobility and digitalisation from a road pavement perspective at the Euroasphalt and Eurobitume Congress (that is E&E for those in the know) in Budapest. Thanks to my excellent panellists, Thomas Leopoldseder, Emilie Lebel, Berwich Sluer and Mayca Rubio for taking it from digital twins, monitoring and control, asset management, energy recovery etc etc. All important aspects of Conference of European Directors of Roads (CEDR)’s own Digital Road Manager #DRM developments. I had the privilege of speaking at TNChE Asia 2024 on “Driving Sustainability and Efficiency: The Role of PRV Monitoring in Digital Transformation Initiatives.” The session delved into the crucial role that gaining insights into PRV (Pressure Relief Valve) activities plays in enhancing operational efficiency and sustainability. Undetected overpressure events pose significant risks to emissions control, production continuity, equipment reliability, and overall safety. By converting conventional PRVs to digital PRVs, we take a vital first step in the digital transformation journey. This conversion enables us to gather comprehensive data on relieving events and leakages, providing a clearer picture of what's happening within the system. With this data in hand, analytic tools can be leveraged to perform detailed root cause analyses of 'near-miss' incidents, allowing us to identify potential issues before they escalate. This proactive approach leads to improved plant operations, reduced downtime, and enhanced safety measures, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and efficient industrial environment.
