Cobalt Market Growth: Projected CAGR of 5.1% by 2030, fueled by demand for EV batteries. Global #cobalt production to increase steadily, reaching 311.8kt by 2030. Drivers of Cobalt Market: EV market expansion is a major driver, with lithium, #cobalt, and nickel crucial for EV battery production. Despite weaker Chinese battery demand in 2023, North America and Europe saw increased demand. Global Cobalt Reserves: DRC holds the largest reserves (4Mt), followed by Australia (1.5Mt) and Indonesia (0.6Mt) as of January 2023. Major Cobalt Producers: DRC dominated global #cobalt output in 2022 (68.4%). Indonesia emerging as a significant producer, with a projected share increase to 20.8% by 2030. Upcoming Projects: 17 new projects expected to come online by 2030, including the Mutoshi and Musonoi projects in DRC and the Sorowako Limonite project in Indonesia. Leading Companies: Glencore, CMOC Group, Jinchuan Group, Vale, and BHP are top #cobalt producers, accounting for 37.4% of global production in 2022. CMOC and BHP saw growth in 2023, while Glencore, Jinchuan Group, and Vale experienced declines due to various factors such as lower grades and maintenance.
