Interesting article about turf wars in medicine. Two thoughts: 1) I have always wondered why every health system has on its C-suite level: a) Chief Medical Officer b) Chief Nursing Officer c) Chief Financial Officer d) Chief Legal Officer e) Chief Consumer Officer f) Chief Technology Officer Where is the Chief Pharmacy Officer at the C-suite? Look up any of these large provider organizations and you will find none! It’s appalling that our pharmacy colleagues occupy such a large portion of our clinical delivery not to mention about 15-20% of any system’s revenue but are not at the table. Which leads me to the crux of the article. Respect and inclusivity should start at the top. Representation matters. 2) I am not an AMA member, but as a Neurosurgeon who works very closely with pharmacists, I have to agree with my pharmacy colleagues. Physicians especially PCPs, are burned out with overwhelming amounts of data and patient demands. Medicine is a team sport, I welcome any help my pharmacy colleagues can afford me lessen my cognitive overload! As some of us smartly incorporate AI into healthcare, is AMA going to complain about AI-scope creep too? Eric Eskioğlu, MD, MBA, FAANS, a few reactions: 1. Embracing a multidisciplinary approach in medicine, integrating pharmacists, Advanced Practice Providers, Artificial Intelligence, and other clinical professionals, holds tremendous potential for elevating the standard of care and ensuring excellence in patient outcomes. Resisting this likely risks not only inefficiency but also undermines the trust patients have in Physicians and the organizations that advocate for them. 2. Medication errors stand out as a prominent cause of hospital readmissions, presenting a clear opportunity for improvement. 3. A shift towards lifestyle interventions before escalating to pharmaceutical interventions seems to be an opportunity for health systems that you cannot do without the presence of many parties to help coordinate.

Appreciate your support for pharmacists as well! What stands out here is the significant issue of medication errors, injury and deaths. Pharmacists are well equipped to make huge impact in patients’ lives and most of us enjoy working as a team with physicians for better patient care and safety. You are right, accomplishing this will require the village and much teamwork!!

Thank you so much for recognizing pharmacists and your support. I really appreciate your views and.valuable perceptions. Especially, about not having a Chief Pharmacy Officer. Also, great thoughts on how inclusivity should start at the top and includes everyone. The team is stronger the more diverse it is!! 💪
