President, American Energy Society

On February 4, 2011, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced the #SunShot Initiative, an ambitious technological challenge (and funding) for technologists to reduce the total costs of #solar energy by 75% by the end of the decade. By September 2017 — three years earlier than expected — the SunShot Initiative had achieved its cost target of $0.06 per kilowatt hour for utility-scale solar. The program was such a success that the DoE has gone a little "Shot crazy." There are currently eight active #Earthshot initiatives designed to speed the transfer of basic research to market. This issue of Energy Today surveys four of them. The fifth article looks at an alternative pathway. In #Denmark, a call for a Tender, or auction, is more structured and competitive than the Shot initiatives in the US. https://lnkd.in/gBw3Tv8v

I was proud to be part of that first Sunshot team leading Communications for DOE Solar at the time!
