On February 4, 2011, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced the #SunShot Initiative, an ambitious technological challenge (and funding) for technologists to reduce the total costs of #solar energy by 75% by the end of the decade. By September 2017 — three years earlier than expected — the SunShot Initiative had achieved its cost target of $0.06 per kilowatt hour for utility-scale solar. The program was such a success that the DoE has gone a little "Shot crazy." There are currently eight active #Earthshot initiatives designed to speed the transfer of basic research to market. This issue of Energy Today surveys four of them. The fifth article looks at an alternative pathway. In #Denmark, a call for a Tender, or auction, is more structured and competitive than the Shot initiatives in the US. https://lnkd.in/gBw3Tv8v

What is wrong with the solar industry? There is a small group of individuals who believe the solar industry is in a decline. Yet, we know that is not the case. Don’t be misled by their shortsightedness, the renewable energy sector is here to stay. Now, is there a decline in sales perhaps, or the reputation of Solar Industry as a whole, and are there aspects of the trade that can improve? These are all great questions. Let’s discuss, collaborate and hear your thoughts next week at Raleigh, North Carolina at the NABCEP: North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners conference. Come, meet industry leaders, and the most influential installers like Brandan Sirrine aka The Solar Goat with Wilson Matthew Betances We will be at Booth 12! We challenge all to share their ideas, experiences, and thoughts about the future of renewable energy. #solar #solarsystem #renewableenergy #nabcep #education #energizeedu

“America’s ability to lead the global clean energy transition and boost grid reliability depends on how quickly we scale domestic production and deploy battery storage technology.” - Abby Hopper, Solar Energy Industries Association president and CEO. ☝️🔋We understand how vital energy storage is to commercial and community solar proliferation as well as to the effort to build resiliency for Americans. The team at Standard Solar has found it to be an integral part of our growth strategy. SEIA just released a new report, “Energizing American Battery Storage Manufacturing," exploring what needs to happen for domestic energy storage production to take off, particularly given that it is expected to fall short of demand within two years if things stay the same. 👀Take a look. https://lnkd.in/ewKrTJZN #PoweringTheEnergyTransformation #communitysolar #commercialsolar #assetacquisition #InflationReductionAct #energystorage
