We sent a survey to every employee at LSC right before Winter Break. Around 2400 people took the time to respond to every question. I distributed the results directly to all employees (and our board) as soon as I got them. Over the Winter Break I received, I think, around 8,000 comments that supplemented, clarified, and expanded on their votes. I spent about four days of my winter break reading each and every comment, one by one, and making notes. Some were hard to read. Others made me laugh. Some made me proud. Others made me feel sad. But I read each of them because I promised I would. All of them were valuable leaps of faith. We also sent every commentator a request to publish their comments to the entire system. Once we get everyone to either opt-in or opt-out, we will publish them. I am personally assigning around 600 actions based on those comments that I think were tangible enough to follow up on to my teammates on the executive team. There is a tracking mechanism for follow-up and closure; we are going to hold each other accountable for closing them out. That's how we are going to build this thing: one piece of honest feedback at a time coupled with real, tangible follow-up action. Listening is cool but doing something about it is cooler.

As a person of a few degrees, a former public educator, and having had children go through the education system, K-12 and higher Ed, I can say with extensive knowledge that this man is truly unique. He has started what I hope is a revolution in education. That administration truly cares about its employees. Not just the teachers, but the cooks, the janitorial staff, the office workers, the assistants and volunteers as well. By doing this survey, he gained a perspective that anyone in administration should have. How the life of every aspect of that institution is from their viewpoint. Because if you can see things through their eyes, you will see how each of them is a necessary part to improving our education system. Bravo Mario K. Castillo! I hope you start a necessary change. #educationrevolution #educationalleadership #instructionaldesigners #educationsolvesalotofproblems

The problem with Labor Day is that for so many of us (especially those in the northern part of the country) see it as a line marking the end of summer and start of the fall/winter seasons. Getting back to work after that long, final summer, weekend is rarely something we all just jump back into. Here are a couple of simple tips to ease us into the start of a new season. https://lnkd.in/g4hSqFck

Did you know Labor Day was born out of murder? Of Americans even. Damn. I learned something new. I was doing research for this special Labor Day post and learned something that came as a bit of a shock. Before I get into that, what is Labor Day anyway? It was created as a tribute to the contributions of American workers have made to America’s strength and prosperity and to protect their rights. The essence of it is this: All workers, regardless of industry or role, want to be treated → fairly → equally → with dignity and respect while on the job. But before this was a thing we all enjoyed… Labor Day had to be created with purpose after this happened: “In July 1894, President Grover Cleveland finally signed into law legislation creating a national Labor Day holiday in early September—even as federal troops in Chicago brutally crushed a strike by railroad and Pullman sleeping car company workers, leaving some 30 people dead.” Isn’t that crazy? I know it’s popular these days to highlight the various wrongdoings of our corporate overlords… But it’s not as bad as it used to be. Not by a longshot. Is there more work to do for better treatment? Sure. And we should keep striving for it. And for parents? It means kids are back in school! Back to the routines we know. To the routines that help you be your best self. And for everyone it symbolizes the end of summer. A chance for people to take a break. Sometimes a much needed break. I hope you had that break this weekend. And continue to enjoy it today. Rest is important. It let’s you be your best self when you do get after it. And for me, that is a great motivator. Because when I work, I WORK. I don’t want to coast. I leave coasting for rest time. Like today. Happy Labor Day! ⚡ If you want to get taste of how to get more TIME, JOY, and AVOID that parent GUILT along your dad journey, sign up for my newsletter in my profile or in the link via comments below. $30,000,000 Increased Retail & eComm Sales at NO UPFRONT COST to businesses during a pandemic as Joe The Finance Guy. Army Veteran, recovering standup comedian here to help.
Labor Day isn't just a day off work. It's a celebration of the backbone of our economy... Hard working people who power businesses, drive progress, and spark innovation. But how much do we really appreciate the labor behind the scenes? From retail employees ensuring shelves are stocked to eComm specialists optimizing every click—each role matters. Example: Imagine your favorite local store without the dedication of its staff. Or An eCommerce site without the tech team keeping it running smoothly. While we enjoy BBQs and beach trips, let's also take a moment to recognize and thank those who keep the wheels turning every day. What’s one small thing you can do to show appreciation for the hard work around you? Drop a comment below and let's share some love for the unsung heroes! Got a different perspective on Labor Day? I'd love to hear your thoughts! Happy Labor Day! ✍️ Your insights do make a difference! ——— ♻️ Reshare if this is helpful 👋 Follow me Joseph Stepke for more like this
