According to new figures from ESB Networks, the country now boasts over 100,000 rooftop solar projects, collectively contributing more than 400 MW of clean energy to the national grid. Key Highlights: - Massive Impact: These rooftop solar installations, combined with 800 MW of larger-scale solar projects, significantly reduce Ireland's carbon footprint and reliance on imported fossil fuels. - Rapid Growth: The rooftop solar momentum is skyrocketing, with 20% of the total capacity installed in just the past six months. Currently, about 750 new microgeneration connections are made each week. - Supportive Regulations: Regulatory changes, such as lifting the previous limit of 12 square meters on rooftop solar installations, have fueled this impressive growth. Ireland's journey to a greener future is inspiring and demonstrates the power of community-driven renewable energy initiatives. Let's keep this momentum going! https://lnkd.in/dMezwhR6 #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #Sustainability #GreenEnergy

Solar Energy UK has released a powerful manifesto calling for 50GW of solar power and 30GW of zero-carbon energy storage by 2030. They're urging Labour to publish a roadmap within the first 100 days to achieve these ambitious goals. Currently, the UK has 20GW of solar and 8GW of energy storage. The manifesto outlines five key actions needed from the government: 1) Embrace UK solar 2) Bring the benefits of solar and storage home 3) Turbocharge the network for net zero 4) Build skills for British green jobs 5) Implement a renewables-first approach to market reform Inconsistent planning and overlooking the link between energy, food security, and nature are major barriers. Consistent planning decisions are crucial to boost investment and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. #Electrification and flexibility can slash #electricity_prices. Boosting #renewables, #electrification and flexibility would structurally ease #electricity_costs for consumers, increase European competitiveness, and reinforce the business case for solar. New modelling shows that #electrification and flexibility can slash average day-ahead energy prices by 25% by 2030, and by 33% by 2040, compared to 2023. At the same time, the solar capture prices will be 71% greater in 2030 compared to the baseline, and 54% higher by 2040, supporting the sustainable growth of solar project developers. Beyond benefit for consumer and developer, electrifying and flexing the system means system-wide cost savings - €30 billion saved by 2030 per year, and €160 billion save by 2040 per year. Walburga Hemetsberger, CEO of SolarPower Europe said: “It is time to take the next step in #energytransition. We need a flexibility revolution, surrounding renewables with grids, storage and electrification. The new political cycle is an opportunity to build the new #energy_transition agenda. We call on EU leaders to implement the existing electricity market regulation, set new targets for renewables and flexibility to 2040 and adopt an EU electrification action and investment plan as soon as possible.” #pv #solarenergy #photovoltaics #solar https://lnkd.in/ebdvBNgz

Australia's distribution grids are making a bold pitch to enhance their role in the energy transition, aiming to optimize solar energy usage, expand storage solutions, and increase EV charging infrastructure. The Energy Networks Australia (ENA) report, "Getting Smarter with the Grid," highlights the underutilised potential of local networks to support renewable energy goals, potentially cutting $7 billion in system costs by 2030. However, regulatory barriers must be addressed to unlock these benefits. #Australia #energymarkets #energygrids #energytransition #smartgrids #solarenergy #solar #netzero

⚡ “Solar PV is on a mission to support Europe to become the most secure, cleanest and most prosperous continent in the world. [But], this is only possible if we are embarking on a flexibility revolution.” - Walburga Hemetsberger, CEO, SolarPower Europe Great article published by Euronews in collaboration with SolarPower Europe and Iberdrola! Here are the key takeaways: 📈 #Solar power in Europe has grown from 1 GW in 2004 to 269 GW in 2023. By 2030, The EU aims to reach 750 GW of installed solar generation. This ambitious target demands a massive growth in system’s flexibility and #electrification. ☀️ SolarPower Europe’s Mission Solar 2040 outlines three future scenarios. Based on the dream scenario (solar, flexibility and electrification), we could expect: - Significant Capacity Increase: Europe could not only reach the 750GW target, but go as far as 1.2 TW of installed solar power by 2030 and surpass 2.4 TW by 2040 - Substantial CO2 Reductions: Up to 151 million tonnes of CO2 could be reduced annually by 2030 and as much as 555 million tonnes by 2040 - Cost Savings: Annual energy system cost savings are projected at €160 billion by 2040. In this scenario, electricity costs across Europe would drop by 25% by 2030 and 33% by 2040 👉 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/gzJx_gpx #EnergyTransition

Renewable energy specialist ★ Green entrepreneur ★ Helping developers and contractors save money on solar panels
In the first half of 2024, the UK installed 647 MW of Solar, surpassing the figures for the same period in 2023 by 1.3GW! With the bulk of installs continuing to be domestic, it shows that public opinion of sustainable, renewable energy options is continuing to grow in a really positive direction. 88% of solar installations were domestic however they only accounted for approximately 30% of the total capacity generated, with commercial installations leading the way for capacity. This highlights huge untapped potential across the commercial sector and utilising industrial rooftops and commercial properties would really help drive solar capacity through the roof! https://lnkd.in/e3kj-uHB #netzero #solarpv #solarenergy #climatechange #sustainability

The Australian Electricity Market Operator (AEMO) is driving a transformative project to revolutionise the National Electricity Market (NEM). Here's the scoop: 🔹Innovative Collaboration: AEMO’s 2024 Integrated System Plan (ISP) predicts 86 GW of rooftop solar and 27 GW of flexible demand response from consumer energy resources (CER) by 2050. This has spurred the creation of the AEMO-CER Data Exchange Industry Co-Design project, in partnership with AusNet. 🔹Funding & Support: The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) supports this initiative with AUD 1.22 million ($800,000). 🔹Digital Transformation: The project aims to develop a common digital infrastructure to facilitate seamless integration, information sharing, and market access for CER across the NEM. 🔹Maximizing Value: ARENA’s Chief Operating Officer, Darren Miller, emphasized the importance of integrating rooftop solar and other CER into the grid to maximize their value, encourage investment, and drive the transition to renewable electricity. 🔹Future Roadmap: A detailed roadmap for the Data Exchange’s rollout is expected by late 2024, building on the successful proof-of-concept from the AEMO Project Edge. Economic Impact: A Deloitte Access Economics analysis estimates that the CER Data Exchange could unlock AUD 5.15 billion to AUD 6.04 billion in benefits over the next 20 years.
