Despite these promising findings, the report reveals a troubling stagnation in overall decarbonization progress. Only 9% of companies comprehensively report emissions across all scopes, highlighting the urgent need for stronger commitment and action. The survey underscores that while companies recognize the value of AI in enhancing efficiency and reporting, many still face barriers such as high costs and the need for better training. Financial Benefits from use of AI in decarbonization efforts

Companies’ use of AI in their decarbonization initiatives can have significant financial benefits, according to a Boston Consulting Group (BCG) report. More than half of survey respondents reported that AI has a major or extremely significant impact (by the automation of tasks) for emissions measurement and reporting, abatement planning, and business, process and product design sustainability. More than 2/3 of companies reported annual net decarbonization benefits worth at least 3% of sales (for an average of $200 million). And, companies using AI in emissions reduction efforts were 4.5 times more likely to see net benefits equal to at least 7% of their revenues. While acknowledging the benefits of AI, the survey’s respondents noted that cost of AI-powered solutions is the key barrier to companies implementing AI in their decarbonization efforts. https://lnkd.in/eM-ErSi2

Interesting Boston Consulting Group (BCG) report showing that more than half of companies globally report that the use of AI has a major impact on key areas of their decarbonization efforts, such as emissions measurement and reporting. AI usage also was a significant driver of companies’ ability to derive substantial sustainability-related financial benefits. Unfortunately, the survey also found little progress by companies over the past year in their decarbonization initiatives.
