Several health disparities exist between Black Americans and White Americans, and socioeconomic factors such as income, education and social class are responsible for much of the differences in physical and mental health outcomes of Black patients. The Eskenazi Health Social Determinants of Health team works with communities and patients to live longer, healthier lives. I am a Jew. I would like to claim objectivity as I post, but I cannot. You may say LinkedIn is not a political platform, but a professional one. However, anything which potentially effects the delivery of healthcare services to an ethnic group or potentially disenfranchised subsection of the population is appropriate to be discussed on LinkedIn. At least on my watch. I have recently joined the American Jewish Medical Association, not as a healthcare practitioner but as someone who has spent a lifetime #bearingwitness to #humansuffering as a #patientadvocate. Here is a link to a post which summarizes what the #AJMA has found to date and it is beyond reprehensible and contemptible. The implications of these developments is chilling for everyone who cares about #humandignity. https://lnkd.in/eyvZEZkW “A new Brief, Antisemitism in Health Professions written by the Jewish Federations of North America has raised the alarm about incidents of discrimination in healthcare settings. Jewish doctors and therapists are being blacklisted, Jewish affinity groups denied recognition, and Zionism mischaracterized as a form of racism or even a mental health condition.” The tactics used include: -Blacklists and exclusions -Divisive directories -Hostile professional groups Pls take a moment to read the entire brief which appears below. I encourage you to repost on your LinkedIn page and other suitable social network platforms. Thank you. UPDATED 9/10/2024-the link embedded in this post and the link to the article below have been removed. I do not know why and am investigating this now. However, the facts remain unchanged and the establishment of the American Jewish Medical Society signals broad changes the Jewish community is witnessing in US society. There's a substantial body of research and data supporting the fact that Black people and other racial and ethnic minorities often experience disparities in social, economic, and health outcomes compared to white populations. These disparities arise from a complex interplay of historical, systemic, and structural factors. Source: KFF.org The Office of Minority Health is to improve the health of racial and ethnic minority populations through the development of health policies and programs that will help eliminate health disparities. https://lnkd.in/eX7yPjVE #MinorityHealth #HealthEquity #DiversityInHealthcare #CulturalCompetence #HealthDisparities

April is National Minority Health Month! This annual observance builds awareness about the health disparities that persist among racial and ethnic minority and American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) populations and encourages everyone to take action to end these inequities. This year's theme, Be the Source for Better Health: Improving Health Outcomes Through Our Cultures, Communities, and Connections, is about understanding how the unique environments, cultures, histories, and circumstances (known as social determinants of health, or SDOH) of racial and ethnic minority and AI/AN populations impact their overall health. Happy Wednesday! We say NO to STIGMA. What does that translate into? ➡️Improved heath seeking behaviour and overall wellbeing of people living and affected by epilepsy. ➡️ Breaking barriers to education, employment and opportunities. ➡️ Shrinking the gap on social and economic disparities hindering the full integration of people with epilepsy in communities. ➡️ Breaking barriers to raising awareness and implementing effective public health initiatives. ➡️Breaking barriers to inclusive societies that value the contribution of every individual. Is my perspective the whole story? or do I need to #CheckMyBias?💚 📢 Let’s challenge stereotypes together! When we hear stereotypes being used in conversation, it’s crucial to speak up and check our bias. Every time we challenge stereotypes, we’re contributing to an anti-stigma movement that promotes inclusivity and understanding. Let’s foster a culture where everyone feels valued and respected, regardless of stereotypes or misconceptions. #CheckMyBias #EndStigma #InclusivityMatters 🌟 An initiative of the Psychiatric Hospital Barbados aimed at creating a more understanding Barbados, one☝🏾reflection at a time. #EndStigma #MentalHealthAwareness” #CheckMyBias #EmbraceMentalHealth #TeamPsychi

#hottopics July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month!!! https://lnkd.in/gZM_MvjT Michael LeNoir MD Minjon LeNoir Hall Denise LeNoir Gerald Lenoir Monique LeNoir The African American Wellness Project (AAWP) was established to address the disparities in healthcare between African Americans and the rest of America. We recognize that race plays a significant role in the health status of African Americans, as they often receive lower quality care compared to other communities. While the healthcare system is slowly changing, we believe that change cannot happen quickly enough, especially with rising costs and increasing health challenges. We believe that while a healthy lifestyle is important, navigating the healthcare system requires organization. The project was formed after a conference that involved influential African American thought leaders from San Francisco, Alameda, and Contra Costa Counties. The goal of the AAWP is to empower the African American community to improve health outcomes and promote wellness.
