🔦 Spotlight on Women in OPeraTIC Project 🔦 Last Sunday, June 23rd, the International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) was celebrated. This year’s INWED theme was #EnhancedByEngineering, celebrating the amazing work women engineers do globally. 📊 Did You Know? In Europe, the percentage of female graduates in engineering and manufacturing is just 20.6% (Eurostat, 2019). Highlighting the importance of gender diversity in engineering and encouraging young women to enter the field is therefore crucial. 🌟 We are thrilled to launch our "Spotlight on Women in OPeraTIC" campaign in this framework. Our initiative aims to highlight the contributions of women working in various roles on the OPeraTIC project, sharing their stories, career paths, and advice for aspiring female engineers and scientists. Through our spotlight series, we aim to provide visibility and recognition to the talented women in our project and inspire more young women and girls to pursue careers in engineering and technology. 👩🔧 What to Expect: 🔹 Inspiring Stories: Meet the women who are driving innovation in OPeraTIC and learn about their journeys in the field of photonics and laser technology. 🔹 Career Insights: Discover their career paths, challenges, and achievements. 🔹 Advice for Aspiring Engineers: Gain valuable advice and insights for women considering a career in engineering. Stay tuned as we present the remarkable work and paths of the women in OPeraTIC! #INWED #WomenInEngineering #OPeraTIC #DiversityInTech #Innovation #Engineering #WomenInTech #WomenInScience

Happy International Women in Engineering Day! 🚀 We spoke to some of the talented women at our office who work as education recruitment consultants in the industry. Sophie Morris shared her insights on why it's crucial to encourage more young women to pursue Engineering: "I was shocked to learn that just 12% of those working within Engineering are female. Encouraging women to join the Engineering Industry is so important, and once the cycle is broken, statistics suggest involvement will just continue to rise, which will be fantastic to see!" Read the rest of her thoughts below! What are your thoughts on empowering women in engineering? Share your insights in the comments! #WomenInEngineering #EngineeringProfessionals #INWED2024 #EdgwareAssociates #EdgwareEducation #EducationRecruitment

Just a few days ago, we celebrated the 2024 International Women In Engineering Day, INWED. This year's celebration resonated deeply with me as I noticed a subtle yet concerning trend of regression against women, not just within engineering profession but across all fields. Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics have undeniably revolutionized our world for the better. I'm proud to be part of a community of women engineers who persist in making impactful contributions despite the gender barriers that try to hold us back. Coming from a family of engineers, problem-solving through science, data, and analysis is ingrained in our DNA, with no gender-based limitations. Decisions are made based on facts and not just the gender of who 'said' it. This has helped me thrive. Let's all take a pledge to reach out to our loved ones and acquaintances, advocating for gender-neutral decisions/career choices, particularly in Science & Engineering. It's crucial to empower and uplift 'girls in Science & Engineering,' ensuring they grasp that their potential knows no gender bounds. #WomenEngineers #STEM #INWED #Excellence #Career #Engineering

In case you missed it… 🌟 Celebrating International Women in Engineering Day! 🌟 I am proud to celebrate and recognise the 375 talented women who work across our global business at Cundall helping to drive innovation and excellence. As Co-Chair of GAIN, our Gender Affinity Network, I'm incredibly proud of the steps we’re taking to support and uplift women in engineering. To celebrate, on Thursday 20th June we held 2 panels with women of all levels across our business, discussing their experiences. A question came from the audience which really was spot on - what can we do to ensure you’re here in 10 years? This was so important as 57% of women leave engineering careers by the age of 35, compared to 17% of men - this is absolutely shocking!! So, what can we do to keep women in the industry? A few ideas…. 🔹 Foster a supportive community through mentorship programs, ensuring women engineers have the guidance and resources they need to thrive. 🔹 Champion diversity and inclusion by advocating for policies that create equitable opportunities for all. 🔹 Provide continuous professional development opportunities, empowering women to advance and lead in their fields. We have a lot of work to do, but for now let’s celebrate the incredible achievements of women engineers around the world and commit to breaking down barriers, one step at a time. Together, we can build a more inclusive and innovative future. To all the women engineers out there – thank you for your hard work, dedication, and brilliance. You are truly making a difference! If you want to see what some of our women engineers are saying, there is some links to blogs below 👇🏼 #INWED2024 #WomenInEngineering #DiversityAndInclusion #STEM #EngineeringExcellence #GenderEquality

After substantial hiatus from business travel, I recently embarked on a trip that gave me new insights and perspectives on things. One of the highlights of my trip was learning that, since 2005, SPIE produced annual planner (now notebook) that highlight women who are making a difference through their work and other contributions to the fields of science, optics, and engineering. Women featured in this year’s notebook are truly inspiring! Do you know that according to WiSE, an organization that aims to champion gender parity in STEM only 22% of engineering graduates and 11% of professional engineers are female? I totally can relate to that as female engineers comprise only 10% in my department. So what does it take to attract more female engineers to the field? Or how can a company help existing women in the field to advance their career? #womeninengineering #genderparity #womeninstem

Today, we celebrate International Women in Engineering Day, a day dedicated to honoring the incredible achievements of women in engineering and technology. This day serves as an inspiration, shining a light on the contributions of women engineers and encouraging the next generation of girls to pursue careers in these fields. However, it also highlights the ongoing challenges women face, including underrepresentation and discrimination, underscoring the urgent need for continued support. Women have made significant strides in engineering, contributing to groundbreaking projects and innovations that shape our world. Their accomplishments demonstrate not only their expertise but also their resilience in overcoming the barriers that exist in a traditionally male-dominated field. INWED is a moment to celebrate these successes and acknowledge the women who have paved the way for others. We can create an environment where all women engineers can thrive, innovate, and continue to make significant contributions to our world. Let’s celebrate today and commit to building a more inclusive and equitable future for women in engineering. #INWED #WomenInEngineering #Engineering #WomenInSTEM #GirlsInSTEM #DiversityInTech #EqualOpportunity #STEMEducation #Mentorship #InclusiveWorkplace #GenderEquality #EmpowerWomen #WomenInTech

Why did I study engineering? Was it because I like to sleep in late? No. Or because I love dressing smart casual and trendy? No. Was it for the calm, routine-driven career where every day is the same? Definitely not. The real reason I chose engineering is my passion for solving problems. I thrive on engaging with engineering standards and staying updated with new norms. Thinking outside the box is my mantra. While others see problems, women engineers see opportunities to drive change and improve processes. Happy International Women in Engineering Day! Today, we celebrate the achievements and contributions of women in engineering. Be the voice you want to hear, be the change you want to see, and be the human you want to be with. Sure!
