Great new paper on risk and protective factors for early child development in Nigeria by the amazing Dr. Ngozi Enelamah!
Our latest research on risk and protective factors for early childhood development (ECD) has just been published with @SpringerNature in the Journal of Child and Family Studies. Read here: https:rdcu.be/dvclh Again, the role of the family environment, particularly maternal education, investment in early education, and stimulating activities with children, provides raison d'etre to intensify advocacy to policymakers and practitioners for a biopsychosocial approach to interventions.

A Critical Call to Action: Protecting Transgender Youth ⚠️❗ We’re excited to share an important JAMA Viewpoints article, 'Moving Beyond Statements to Protect Transgender Youth,' co-authored by our amazing advisory board member, Dr. William T. Zempsky. Featured in the August 2024 issue, this article highlights the urgent need for children’s hospitals to take real action to protect the mental health and well-being of transgender and nonbinary youth. The statistics from the Trevor Project’s 2023 US National Survey are staggering: over 50% of transgender and nonbinary youth considered suicide in the past year, and more than 75% reported severe anxiety symptoms. It's clear that action is needed now more than ever. Learn more about the vital steps we must take: https://lnkd.in/ePe8cwZD. And join us in advocating stronger protections for vulnerable youth! ℹ JAMA. 2024;332(7):529-530. doi:10.1001/jama.2024.10196 🏥 Connecticut Children's 🏥 UConn Health

It’s never been more important to support Black parents and their babies in Texas. In the wake of SB8 and Texas’ total abortion ban, we saw the birth rate increase among two vulnerable populations of Black pregnant folk: teens 15-19 and womxn 30-44. Teens may need additional support if they lack access to the financial resources and healthcare services they need to have healthy pregnancies. Black womxn over the age of 35 are more likely to experience high-risk pregnancies and potential complications, and may need additional prenatal care. We’re proud to run the Southern Roots Doula and Wellness Center, providing care, support, and resources for Black pregnant people and families here in North Texas; but, we also need our lawmakers to increase access to affordable, prenatal and postpartum healthcare to ensure every Black family has the resources they need to live healthy lives.
