May 17th marks the anniversary of the creation of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The ITU is an agency of the UN, with responsibilities such as: - Managing the radio spectrum, by coordinating the shared global use of radio transmission frequencies; - Assigning satellite orbits, promoting international cooperation in placement of satellites in nonconflicting orbits; - Developing technical standards for networks and technologies; - Improving access to Internet and Computer Technologies (ICTs) for underserved communities. The World Standards Cooperation (W2C) is an alliance of the ITU, ISO and IEC (The International Electrotechnical Commission), three organizations that often collaborate on standards development. Some aspects of enabling smart farming will be good targets for this kind of joint work. While agriculture in many of the world's largest food exporters is already highly mechanized and ICT-intensive, the Global South can benefit enormously from advances that can be enabled by standards, such as lower-cost telecommunications and platforms for deploying AI models to small devices. #isotc347 #datadrivenagrifoodsystems #iso #isostandards #agriculture #food #agrifood #smartfarming #data #wtisd

This era was characterized by groundbreaking advancements in #NuclearPower and a #Spirit_of_Cooperation that transcended national borders... #Euroatom, was the first step for the #Europe_of_the_Athom, linked to #The_Marshall_Plan help to #Europe to add #NuclearPower to its #EnergyMix, help to #Europe´s economy to generate energy to recover from the effects of the second world war... Today, as we face the #EnergyTrilemma, it is imperative that we resurrect this #Spirit_of_Cooperation, it´s imperative that we resurect the #Europe_of_the_Athom... It is not merely a nostalgic nod to the past; it is a strategic imperative for addressing the urgent challenges of today and tomorrow!!! By embracing #NuclearEnergy as a cornerstone of our #EnergyPolicy, #Europe can lead the way in building a sustainable, secure, and prosperous future. This letter investigates the downlink/forward transmission of linear #space-#time #block #coded (#STBC) signals through multiple geographically distributed #non-#geostationary #orbit (#NGSO) satellites. As such, by combining the signals through multiple satellites, STBC provides a diversity advantage, which helps in combating the adverse effects of fading and interference at the #user #terminals (#UTs). CERN’s accelerator complex, experimental areas and data centre need a complex cooling and ventilation system. It recently served as a testbed for digital simulations (#digitaltwin) to develop energy-saving scenarios through a joint CERN and ABB Motion research project. An energy-saving opportunity of 17.4 percent in the cooling and ventilation motors was identified - the equivalent of the energy used by 18 thousand European households (EU average: ~1670 kWh/year). A selective upgrade of the motors with the highest energy-saving potential is planned in the near future and is in line with CERN’s commitment to minimising its environmental footprint.
