Why do retaining walls fail? Poor drainage is the main reason retaining walls fail. The hydrostatic pressure can push on the wall and cause it to bow out or disintegrate if too much water is absorbed into the soil behind it. Don't leave it to chance, hire the experts and build it only once. #retainingwall #construction #hardscape #landscaping #landscapedesign

It takes years of experience and a methodical approach to identifying potential drainage problems. Or, ensure this strip of lush green grass around this chamber raises a red flag. As expected a blocked drain with water up to the cover. Turned out to be plastic rubble bags and shingle assumed from construction. PJR Surveying #buildingsurveying #buildingsurveyors

Grasscrete™ was the perfect solution for this site as it reduces impervious surfaces and promotes infiltration. The common accessway, needed to be hard-wearing to support vehicle access while also being a permeable surface. Grasscrete™ was chosen as it met the Auckland shared accessway standard for 150mm reinforced slab, and minimised runoff from driving surfaces. Installation was completed for the subdivision, receiving council signoff. Grasscrete™ is an environmental paving system designed for high load-bearing and is ideal in low-traffic areas such as car parks, driveways and other applications such as spillways and erosion control. Grasscrete™ is also commonly used for housing and sites with very limited permeable areas. Grasscrete™ is a permeable surface that allows rainfall to penetrate which maximises non-permeable land use elsewhere. This permeable paving system essentially allows for grass to grow in between steel-reinforced concrete, which mimics natural processes and allows stormwater to infiltrate into the ground, where it percolates through the soil and is naturally filtered. FALSE! Flat roofs are a common type of commercial roofing, but they aren’t flat. They have a slight slope to allow for proper drainage. . . . #roofing #roofingcontractor #roofingcontractors #roofingrepair #roofingreplacement #roofinstallation #roofingcompanies #roofingdoneright #roofingcrew #roofingcompany

Below-grade waterproofing is a crucial step in the construction process that involves applying protective barriers to the portion of a building that sits under ground level, such as basements and foundations. It is essential for preventing water intrusion, which can compromise structural integrity and indoor air quality. Key benefits of effective #BelowGradeWaterproofing include: 💧 Water Infiltration Prevention: Keeps water from seeping into the foundation, which can cause cracks, erosion, and long-term damage. 💧 Mold and Mildew Mitigation: Reduces the risk of mold growth, protecting the health of occupants and preserving indoor air quality. 💧 Enhanced Durability: Safeguards against hydrostatic pressure, ensuring the building remains strong and stable over time. 💧 Property Value Maintenance: Protects the building’s value by preventing water-related damages that can be costly to repair. At Structural-Builders and Restorations, we use high-quality below-grade waterproofing systems because it is a critical investment in the building's future. By addressing potential water issues from the outset, we ensure that foundations stays as strong as the vision that built it. #StructuralBR #Waterproofing #BelowGrade #Safety #SaferandDurable #SafetyFirst #HighQualitySystems #Construction #Florida #WaldorfAstoriaMiami #HillcrestMiami #FiveParkMiami

In construction, backfilling is a critical process that involves refilling excavations or covering the foundation with previously removed soil or sand. A crucial but often overlooked step in this process is the addition of water. Here's why watering during backfilling is essential: 👇 1. 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙀𝙣𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩: Watering soil or sand during backfilling significantly improves compaction. Moisture acts as a lubricant, allowing soil particles to slide and settle more closely, reducing air pockets and increasing the density of the fill. 2. 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 & 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙩𝙝: Properly compacted backfill provides a stable and strong base for any structure. It supports foundation walls against the lateral pressures of the surrounding earth and ensures the longevity of the pavement and landscaping. 3. 𝙍𝙚𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩: Uniform compaction achieved through watering minimizes the risk of uneven settling, which can lead to structural issues like cracking, leaning, or even collapse. 4. 𝙈𝙤𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙡: By controlling the moisture content during backfilling, we can prevent future soil shrinkage or expansion, which is often caused by natural moisture fluctuations. This proactive step is crucial in regions prone to extreme wet or dry conditions. 5. 𝙀𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙮: Watering during backfilling speeds up the settling process, making it more efficient and reducing the need for repeated compaction efforts. #prestigegroup #TPCM #commercialconstruction
