The 2024 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as UEFA Euro 2024 (stylised as UEFA EURO 2024) or simply Euro 2024, will be the 17th edition of the UEFA European Championship, the quadrennial international football championship organised by UEFA for the European men's national teams of its member associations. Germany will host the tournament, which is scheduled to take place from 14 June to 14 July 2024 and the winner will later compete in the 2025 CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions against the 2024 Copa América winner. 24 teams will compete, with Georgia as the only team making their first appearance in a UEFA European Championship finals or a major international tournament. It will be the third time that European Championship matches are played on German territory and the second time in reunified Germany, as the former West Germany hosted the tournament's 1988 edition, and four matches of the multi-national Euro 2020 were played in Munich. It will be the first time the competition is held in what was formerly East Germany with Leipzig as a host city, as well as the first time that a reunified Germany serves as a solo host nation. The tournament will return to its usual four-year cycle, after the 2020 edition was postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Italy is the defending champion, having won the 2020 tournament after beating England on penalties in the final.

⚽ The FA has published its updated GBE criteria ahead of the summer transfer window. No significant changes this year, although it's always interesting to see movement in the all-important league and competition banding. In the men's criteria, the Australian A-League has been added to Band 5 and the Europa Conference League joins the Europa League in Band 2. The likely impact of those changes: 1️⃣ The Australian A-League banding is unlikely to have a significant impact under the regular points-based system - decent game time for a top-ranked nation will still be needed. However, it widens the scope for bringing A-League players in as elite significant contribution players. 2️⃣ The Conference League ranking increases the likelihood of regular starters at Band 4 or 5 league clubs and fringe players at higher-band clubs meeting the points threshold, provided their club at least reaches the new 36-team league phase (the former group stage) of the competition. Notable UEFA Band 4 leagues: Czech First League, Croatian First Football League, Swiss Super League, Ukrainian Premier League, Greek Superleague, Austrian Bundesliga, Danish Superliga, and Russian Premier League. Notable UEFA Band 5 leagues: Serbian Superliga, Norwegian Eliteserien, Poland Ekstraklasa, Slovenian PrvaLiga, Sweden Allsvenskan, and Hungarian NB I.

Nations League Draw – Who Are England Set To Face? https://ift.tt/gtqsW2U Love it or hate it, the UEFA Nations League is here to stay, and there’s no denying it’s made those mid-season international breaks slightly more exciting. After a very poor showing during the last campaign, England faced relegation and now will play in League B. Today we found who the three teams England will be facing in group B2, and here’s a rundown on who they’ll be going up against. Finland Markku Kanerva’s side were drawn out from pot two during the draw and theoretically will be Gareth Southgate’s toughest opponent. Ranked 59th in the FIFA world rankings, Finland ended their previous Nations League campaign in second place in their B League group, falling short of promotion by three points to Bosnia & Herzegovina. The Huuhkajat are looking to qualify for their second European Championship this summer, when they take on Wales in the playoffs. Republic Of Ireland Arguably the draw everyone wanted, the Three Lions will be facing their local rivals, the Republic of Ireland. It’ll be their first meeting in front of fans since 2015, with just one meeting coming in between, a 3-0 win for England behind closed doors in 2020. Ireland are placed just one behind Finland in the FIFA World Rankings and finished third in their previous Nations League group, where they faced other local rivals Scotland. Unlike Finland, the boys in green will 100% not be in Germany in June, following a fourth-place finish, seven points behind a potential playoff place. Greece Greece enter the B League for the first time, following a promotion in the previous tournament. Despite being in the lowest pot, Greece are the highest-ranked team in the world rankings, being placed 47th. The 2004 European Champions face Kazakhstan in the playoffs to try and claim their place in their fifth Euro finals. England should be looking at that group and look at gaining promotion back to the A-League with ease. With a potential new manager coming in after the European Championships, this tournament could be the perfect opportunity to win over the Three Lions fans with exciting football. lewisgart0n Read More At Look Sports Media

It is a four-match Day 12 at UEFA EURO 2024, as Groups C and D are settled on Tuesday, 25. June. Here is the schedule for decision day, with eight teams, a full third of the field, taking part at four venues across Germany. 🇫🇷 FRANCE vs. POLAND 🇵🇱 (GROUP D - 18.00, DORTMUND): 🇳🇱 NETHERLANDS vs. AUSTRIA 🇦🇹 (GROUP D - 18.00, BERLIN): - France, who are 1-1-0 in Group D with a single goal for and none conceded, head to Dortmund to take on Poland, who are already eliminated at 0-0-2 with losses to the Netherlands and Austria. In the other match in Berlin, the Netherlands, who are tied for first in the group with a 1-1-0 record, take on Austria, who are 1-0-1 after losing to France by one but winning against Poland by two. A point for Austria in that match means that three teams from this group will advance to the knockout stages, but the Dutch, who can finish first in the group and currently hold the lead on goals scored, will not be an easy test. - France and Poland faced each other in the round of 16 at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, with the French victors 3-1; in a way, the 0-0 draw meant that France played a role in eliminating the Poles in the second consecutive major tournament. The Netherlands and Austria played in the group stage of UEFA EURO 2020, with the end result being 2-0 to the Dutch. 🇩🇰 DENMARK vs. SERBIA 🇷🇸 (GROUP C - 21.00, MUNICH): 🏴 ENGLAND vs. SLOVENIA 🇸🇮 (GROUP C - 21.00, COLOGNE): - Denmark are 0-2-0 in the group, having drawn both of their matches with Slovenia and England. Serbia are not too far behind, having also drawn Slovenia in a late finish but losing to England on a single goal. England are the most favoured team in this group, 1-1-0 and almost certainly into the knockout stage; Slovenia, like Denmark, are also 0-2-0. There are three teams all within a point of each other, and it is possible that one of them can qualify with three draws, but if two teams with one or two points lose their matches, they are certainly eliminated from knockout football. - Denmark and Serbia played in an international friendly in March 2022, while both teams were preparing for the World Cup tournament; the Danes won by a final result of 3-0. England's last match against Slovenia was a FIFA World Cup qualifying match in 2017, a 1-0 win courtesy of a ninetieth-minute goal from Harry Kane. The last two decision days have seen epic finishes in Group A and Group B - will we see another in one of these two? #football #soccer #euro2024 #uefaeuro2024 #em2024 #germany #france #poland #polska #netherlands #holland #nederland #austria #österreich #denmark #danmark #serbia #srbija #србија #england #slovenia #slovenija

Hungary Faces Hungry Germany in Euro 2024 Second Round Fixture The Hungarian national football team is gearing up for a daunting clash against Germany in the second round of Euro 2024. Following a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Switzerland in their opening match, Hungary finds itself in a precarious position. The challenge ahead is monumental as they prepare to face a German side that opened their campaign with a commanding 5-1 victory over Scotland. Under the guidance of manager Marco Rossi, Hungary's recent form at the European Championships has been anything but reassuring. The team has failed to secure a victory in their last seven matches at the Euros, managing only four draws and succumbing to three defeats. This streak includes their recent setback against Switzerland, where defensive frailties were on full display as they conceded three goals. Rossi has been candid about the task at hand, describing Hungary's encounter with Germany as "near-impossible." His blunt assessment underscores the formidable challenge his squad faces, especially considering Germany's current form and historical prowess in international competitions. Germany's comprehensive win over Scotland highlighted their attacking prowess and defensive solidity, setting a high... #Euro2024 #Germany #Hungary

Upstart Spain Confront Seasoned France For Spot In Euros Final https://ift.tt/t4q7naY Munich, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 9th Jul, 2024) Luis de la Fuente’s Spain are the form team of Euro 2024 but face tournament specialists France in Tuesday’s semi-final in Munich. Spain have lit up Euro 2024, winning all Five games while scoring 11 goals and are just one win away from the final. To get there however, Spain will need to go through a France side who while not impressing in Germany have shown their expertise and experience at major tournaments to navigate their way to the final four. France have only scored three goals at Euro 2024, none of which have come from general play. Misfiring captain Kylian Mbappe, playing in a specialized mask due to a broken nose sustained in the opening fixture against Austriahas scored from the spot once, while the French have benefited from two own goals. Led by coach Didier Deschamps however, France have shown the necessary nous and guile to go within one game of their fourth final in the last five major tournaments. With a 25-year-old captain and one of the youngest squads at Euro 2024, it is easy to overlook how the French have established themselves as the dominant force in Europe football over the past decade. Since a quarter-final defeat by eventual champions Germany at the 2014 World cup, France have made the final at every major tournament other than Euro 2020. That run includes a World Cup triumph in 2018 and a loss on penalties to Argentina in Qatar four years later, along with an extra-time defeat by Portugal at Euro 2016 on home soil. The importance of France‘s experience at major tournaments has been clear in Germany. Despite a run to the semis, the French have failed to impress. France are yet to score from general play, with only an Mbappe penalty and two own goals in the plus column. That 1-0 loss to Germanyjust over 10 years ago, was their last defeat in regulation time at a major competition. Midfielder Adrien Rabiot said France had full faith even if they are yet to light the tournament on fire. “We’ve always talked about it being a team game, needing a team effort. It’s the case for all recent competitions we’ve played in and is the case at this Euros. “Even if we’ve had difficulties, we’re in the semi-finals.” A self-described pragmatist, coach Deschamps said Monday results are what matters at major tournaments. “Maybe it’s not the same As it was in the past, but we do have the ability to spark emotions and make lots of French men and women happy with our results.” De la Fuente shot down suggestions France were boring, but said Spain‘s game plan “is closer to a nice show, a nice Spectacle, if we do it right. “In that respect, we’re a nice team to watch.” Spain have scored 11 goals through eight different goalscorers, posing threats across the park. The Spain coach echoed his counterpart’s statements, even...

The group stage of UEFA EURO 2024 is over. We have seen some surprises (e.g. Georgia), but also some teams that have fallen short of their own expectations or disappointed in sporting terms (see England). The round of 16 brings us some interesting matches, but also discussions about the mode of organisation. Is it justified to progress as one of the best third-placed teams in the group but with fewer points than a fourth-placed team? Take the Slovenians, for example, who progress with 3 points, whereas Ukraine are eliminated with 4 points. Or should Germany have lost in order to have the apparently easier route in the tournament and not have to face Spain in the quarter-finals? Provided both win their next game. Or is it not rather the case that you have to compete with the best teams if you want to win the title? What good is it for to get far with an average performance against "weaker" opponents only to be shown my limits later on? Did I write weaker opponents? This is not meant to be disrespectful. The teams in Europe have grown closer together and the overall quality has improved. Georgia clearly demonstrates this in this tournament. So why not increase the number of teams to 32? This would not detract from the quality. We would then have teams like Sweden or Norway (with Haaland) in the competition. Let's move on to the games: SUI vs. ITA is certainly a match of equals. Although I think Switzerland have a slight advantage here. GER vs. DEN is an interesting game. Denmark is always good for a surprise (see Euro 1992). If Germany improve on their last game, nothing should stand in the way of them progressing. ENG vs. SVK another match at eye level. The game could go into extra time. England will have to improve enormously if they want to progress to the next round. ESP v GEO should be a clear-cut affair on paper and based on the Spaniards' previous performances. However, Georgia showed against Portugal that they are always good for a surprise. Nevertheless, this should be the end of their journey. FRA vs. BEL is a match that all football fans can look forward to. Both teams still have room for improvement. We shouldn't be surprised to see extra time. My tip: penalty shoot-out. POR vs SVN is difficult to predict. Portugal will have a lot of anger in their stomachs after their defeat by Georgia and won't underestimate their opponents. Maybe Ronaldo will get the knot and decide the game in Portugal's favour. ROU vs. NED will be a match of equals. The Dutch have shown that they can come back after setbacks. The game will remain open for a long time, but will be decided by a goal just before the end of the 90 minutes. AUT vs. TUR is seen by some as the top match. In my opinion, the Turks are being made out to be stronger than they are. Austria are the clear favourites for me. In terms of commitment, tactics and cohesion, they are certainly one of the top teams at these European Championship finals. #euro2024 #football
