🌸 HANAMI project promoting HPC collaboration between the EU and Japan was successfully kicked off in Paris this week. 🤝 The project brings together European HPC centres, Centres of Excellence and a Japanese consortium to jointly develop climate/weather, biomedical and materials science applications and provide mutual access to extreme-scale supercomputers in both regions. ❄️Supercomputer LUMI plays a crucial role in the project as a platform for benchmarking, measuring and optimizing the scientific applications and the different architectures. 🇪🇺 🇯🇵The project also facilitates exchanges of researchers and experts, and aims to create a roadmap for sustainable future collaboration to enable long-term cooperation between the research communities in Japan and the EU. The project is coordinated by Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives.

EngLab@NTUA and QuAID³ were at Madrid for the 19th European Mechanics of Materials Conference and George Pissas presented recent developments on resolving fractures in long fibre composites. We very much thank the organizers for setting up a wonderful and inspiring venue. The research project QuAID³ is implemented in the framework of H.F.R.I call “Basic research Financing (Horizontal support of all Sciences)” under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0” funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU (H.F.R.I. Exciting News from the Official euspen Conference in Dublin! 🎉 A few weeks ago, SENSOFAR EU Project Research Associate, Dr. Chaoren Liu, showcased a scientific poster at the prestigious Euspen conference on behalf of all the authors (Dr. Carlos Bermudez , Dr. Guillem Carles Santacana, and Dr. Roger Artigas). The poster, titled "A Method for Monitoring Vibrations on an Interferometric Optical Profilometer," introduces a novel approach to measuring the response of commercial optical profilers to environmental acoustic noise at controlled frequencies. This method also evaluates the effectiveness of a commercial active anti-vibrational table. This innovative technique can be applied to any image-based interferometric system, offering a new way to understand its dynamics and use it as a proxy to monitor the surrounding environment. 🌐🔬 #Euspen2024 #OpticalProfilometry #Innovation #VibrationMonitoring #ScientificResearch

🎙 #ConferenceErasmeDescartes 🎙 #Quantum Whereas during his visit to the Netherlands in April 2023, President Macron highlighted Franco-Dutch cooperation in the field of #quantumtechnologies, exploring in particular advances in photonics and #semiconductors, the Erasmus-Descartes Conferentie / Conférence Erasme-Descartes focuses in 2023 on Quantum Leap Getting Europe ready for technological #sovereignty. At this conference, Félix GIVOIS, Quantum Computing Project Engineer, has represented GENCI during the discussion dedicated to the transfer of #quantum development to society and its multiple applications. He underlined that GENCI is one of the leader of the French Hybrid HPC quantum initiative (HQI France) that comprises 2 main core components: -> the installation and hybridization of quantum computers of different technologies in a High Performance Computing center #HPC #TGCC CEA -> a research and development program about the power of this hybridization and the possible resulting industrial use cases. This program mingles several actors from the French research ecosystem such as CEA CNRS - Centre national de la recherche scientifique Inria as well as different universities. It aims to create a platform for French #openresearch where they will be able to use the power of hybridized HPC Quantum. Felix explained that "our status today is the given access to an emulation capability of quantum system using the power of HPC. In Spring 2024, researchers will have access to a hybridized 100 qubits quantum system. Even if today our platform is limited, we already saw some collaboration emerging around industrial used cases in order to prepare for the arrival of the quantum neutral atom system"...
