FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: Meagan Molter meagan@lca.org Louisiana Granted Primacy Over Class VI Wells BATON ROUGE – December 28, 2023 - Today, Greg Bowser, President and CEO of the Louisiana Chemical Association (LCA), made the following statement after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that the State of Louisiana’s application for primacy over Class VI wells has been approved. “ I am so glad to hear that the EPA has approved Louisiana's Class VI primacy application. This application to regulate Class VI injection well projects for Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) is crucial for our state and the approval of the application will be monumental for creating a sustainable Louisiana. We have the opportunity to utilize this new and safe technology and become a pioneer and model for other states. Our industry is committed to reducing emissions and keeping Louisiana beautiful and healthy. Not to mention, the profound economic boost this will provide to our state through new investments and tax revenue. Granting primacy to Louisiana for these projects will help reduce permitting time and it will ensure that operations strictly adhere to all unique environmental guidelines that pertain to our state individually. The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources has stringent guidelines that must be followed for projects such as these and they are already well-equipped to permit these types of projects.
