Although animals are exploited by the billions, they have no say in what happens to them. Animals are not asked about how they feel spending most of their life in a cage. They are not asked how they feel about giving away their babies just hours after they are born. No one asks them if they are okay with being a pet, a means of transportation or a stunt in a circus. We decide for them - and as it stands, many are condemned to a life of suffering. As citizens and animal lovers, it is up to us to step up and be their voice. It is up to us to represent their interests within the #EU. How? By advocating for them. By making informed decisions. By educating ourselves. By voting for them. By signing petitions. The #ECI - which is basically a European petition - is a tool that allows citizens to participate in the EU’s democratic process. Thanks to millions of concerned citizens, we are currently waiting on two milestone bans on cages and fur. Once this happens (if it happens), this will be HUGE. And it will be because we - as citizens - decided to do something for those who cannot: the animals. Share this video to inspire someone to take action for animals. As this Sunday will be #InternationalDayofDemocracy, we are taking this week to talk more in depth about EU #democracy, citizen participation and #animalwelfare.

It is official! Our network “Representing Animals” has been renamed to “Animals in Democracy”. Our new domain is www.animalsindemocracy.org. This change will help us to have a clearer communication since it better reflects our mission: we aim to include animals into our democracies. It means that we are on the one hand denouncing the overrepresentation of the animal industry in politics and on the other hand we are working on properly representing animals in parliaments, ministries and city councils. Our network is supported by 5 international animals rights organisations: - Australian Alliance for Animals, L214 (France), Otwarte Klatki (Poland), Tier im Fokus (TIF) (Switzerland) and Animal Society (Germany). Subscribe to our newsletter to recieve the latest updates: https://lnkd.in/ef8KUp93 Help us spread the word: share and support our network!

New campaign launch. Warning: it's BIG! We've teamed up with over 60 animal protection organisations in our network, content creators across the EU, academics, politicians and more to create an EU-wide campaign for the upcoming #EUelections2024. We will be active in all 27 EU countries, lobbying for candidates to commit to improving #animalwelfare if elected. We want them to commit to 10 demands for animals. What do we want to achieve? The upcoming European elections will define the composition of the European Parliament for the next 5 years. In turn, the European Parliament will define the composition of the European Commission. The more MEPs (members of the European Parliament) care about and are committed to animals, the higher the chances of achieving change. Were you one of the 1.4 million people who signed the European Citizens' Initiative "End The Cage Age" back in 2021? And did you, like me, get furious when the European Commission failed to deliver on the promise they made to 1.4 million Europeans to propose a ban on animals in cages by the end of 2023? Then I have some news for you. In response to a complaint to the European Ombudsman, submitted by a coalition of animal welfare organizations in November 2023, regarding the Commission's failure to fulfill its responsibilities, unclear communication with citizens about their intentions, and undermining our democracy by rejecting the massive demand from European citizens to get animals out of those terrible cages, the Commission must now respond to the criticism by the end of January. Pressure will continue to be exerted on the Commission to ensure they keep their promise and provide a timeline for phasing out animals in cages. Even though the agricultural lobby has tried to derail us from the ethical path that the EU was on, the fight is not lost, and many of us are holding strong. It is SO incredibly important to have green animal advocates in parliament, as the green, animal-friendly agenda is the path to a healthy Europe. Out with the lobbyists and the greedy interests that are harming us, animals, and the opportunities for future generations. In with an agenda focused on compassion, sustainability, ethics, and rights for both people, animals, and nature. #eu #politics #animalrights #endthecageage

What do animals have to do with elections? In one week, about 373 million people will be voting across the European Union. Polls are suggesting that for the first time, the next European Parliament might find itself with a majority of lawmakers that don't support European integration. This would make progress on issues like climate change, agricultural sustainability and animal welfare much more difficult to achieve, and these are problems that need EU-wide solutions. It was a pleasure to interview Joe Moran and Alberto Alemanno for this video, who explain why these particular #EUelections2024 matter, not only for millions of Europeans but also for billions of animals. #UseYourVote #DoBetterForAnimals

Happy #WorldFarmedAnimalsday! We celebrate this day to raise awareness and educate people about the deplorable conditions of farmed animals in factory farming. Annually, 80 billion land animals are used for farming. It is estimated that 56 billion are trapped in industrial farming systems, that inflict pain, stress, and appalling suffering, all to satisfy the growing demand for cheap meat. And, so many fish are taken from the wild or farmed for consumption that they are counted by tons, not by the individuals they are. Factory farming's impact on the planet The day also gives us a chance to promote awareness about factory farming's impact on the earth's climate. Factory farming contributes significantly to climate change due to deforestation for animal feed production and carbon emissions from livestock rearing processes. This destructive industry also accelerates habitat destruction and wildlife displacement. (Bron: https://lnkd.in/ebKN8SZV) #worldfarmedanimalsday #BBBareyoureadingthis?

USA In a country defined by immigration since 1620 as Mayflower landed on the shores of a upto then free country; a freak show. It would properly take a shrink to unfold that collective trauma and start the healing process of a whole nation in order to save the free world as we know it. WORLD While we are at it; set up a systemic trauma therapie process for all, former colonized people and those who conquered the world, in order to embrace the deep scares of neglect and abuse. GERMANY I just learned that traumas are inherited over at least seven generations in mice; star psychiatrist Professor Florian Holsboer Foundation (Munich) claims this is the phenomen behind the #GermanAngst; three major wars in only 100 years; in my layman reading the full story behind Germany's persistant support of Russia since WW2 and hesistance with regard to making a stand for the free world by unconditonally supporting Ukraine in its battle for #freedom and #peace for us all in Europe. i.e. the Germans are preconditioned to be an ineffective partner of the free world and maintain peace with trustworthy deterrance; don't expect that to change any time soon; it's a pathalogical brain condition without escape; it will only wear off after another four to five generations around year 2100. In November 2023, #Savanta conducted a survey on attitudes and perceptions towards hunting practices in rural communities in the #EU. The survey was administered through online platforms, with a sample of 10,000 inhabitants in rural areas in the following EU member states: Germany, France, Spain, Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Romania (1,000 per Member State). The results of the study indicate a widespread consensus towards more humane and justified hunting practices, as well as increased biodiversity protection and animal welfare. #biodiversity #huntingpractices #NJFF #SDG11 #SDG15 #ICCWC #jaktogfiske #landbruksdirektoratet #ecofriendly #ecosustainability https://lnkd.in/dW3NY4Es

As heat waves surge throughout Europe, animals are vulnerable to extreme temperatures, especially when they are being transported by road and sea. A new investigation by Essere Animali found animals forced to travel at temperatures above 45° without water and left under scorching sun in Italy, whilst another by The Animal Welfare Foundation explored the issue of dead animals being tossed off of export vessels into the Mediterranean sea. Watch the investigations here: https://bit.ly/3YJtTtF Last December, the European Commission put forward a proposal to improve #animalwelfare during live transport. Unfortunately, the text lacks ambition and compassion, especially towards vulnerable animals (e.g. very young animals). With the live animal transport industry in such a bad state, it’s critical the proposal is revised further to include stronger protections, as well as a ban on live exports.
