It is an early center of Christianity, a place that preserves and highlights the high level of artistic patronage of the archbishops of Moravia, and a fine example of heritage conservation in the region. 🏰 Kynžvart Chateau – Place of Diplomatic Meetings Nestled in the picturesque west of the Czech Republic, Kynžvart Castle is a true marvel surrounded by a sprawling historical park spanning 293 hectares. 🌳✨ In the 19th century, Austrian Chancellor Prince Klemens von Metternich orchestrated the castle's grand reconstruction, leaving an indelible mark on its architectural legacy. 📜 As a place of memory, Kynžvart Castle echoes the discussions and negotiations of European diplomacy. It stands as a symbol of the search for balance between major European states. While Chancellor Metternich's ownership adds historical weight, the site's focus lies on its diplomatic significance. 🏠 Werkbund Estates in Europe (Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Poland) Additionally, let's not forget the significant architectural experiment that was the Werkbund Estates in Europe 1927-1932, spanning across 4 countries including Czech Republic. These estates, inspired by the "New Objectivity" movement, aimed to address the widespread lack of suitable housing in post-World War I Europe. Despite facing challenges in conveying their progressive ideas, these estates left a profound influence on 20th-century modernist architecture, reflecting the social, political, and aesthetic aspirations of their time. Positive news~ globally. Canada needs to step up to the plate! In a world facing so many overwhelming and overlapping crisis points ~ wars, climate , Healthcare crisis, housing shortages , education, NextGen pathways ~ can't this country lead the discussion/ provide a platform to do so? First step may be rejoining the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) and engaging communities east to west on how to proceed. Personally i belive its overdue. We can lead ~ if we take up the challenge.

One wouldn't usually expect almost any given European to be familiar with a small Luxembourg community with barely more than 5,000 inhabitants. But if that community is Schengen, well, things are different. The Schengen Agreement was first signed in 1985 – by Germany, France, and the BeNeLux countries, aboard a passenger ship at berth in Schengen – and entered into force in 1995. And ever since then, traveling in Europe has been so much easier for many people. But what about the village of Schengen itself? Well, it has the European Museum and a number of European Monuments (including pieces of the Berlin Wall, no less!), but also a castle with baroque gardens and a church which also contains a nod to Europe: for the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Schengen Agreement, an icon was commissioned depicting the patron saints of Europe and the twelve stars. #citiesofeurope #europeanunion #schengen Image by Pixabay

As of today, 107 museums from all parts of #Ukraine are represented on our platform. Russian aggression also means destroying Ukrainian culture and national identity. What is important at this point is planning the #future for Ukrainian #museums, which are one of the elements of Ukraine's reconstruction. Museums are an indispensable part of an open society – not only to preserve the past in all its diversity, but at least as much to reflect present experiences and to prepare the future of our societies. Over 30 countries pledged support for #Ukraine’s cultural sector at the UNESCO conference in #Vilnius. This is a huge step forwards to safeguard Ukraine’s rich cultural heritage. The 10 concrete proposals for the reconstruction of Ukraine discussed by Ukrainian museums a week ago at the conference in Berlin “From crisis to future. New responsibilities for museums in Ukraine” were introduced in the UNESCO conference and will accompany the ongoing international support. The next step will be the Ukraine Recovery Conference next week in #Berlin where culture now will be given a bigger place. Culture is an indispensable part of the future of Ukraine. This is why Russia, in effort to re-colonalize Ukraine, continues to systematically destroy and rob sites of cultural heritage. Ukraine has much to contribute to Europe’s cultural heritage. Call for papers - MSA Nordic Conference 2024 “The Art of Conviviality” 24th-25th October 2024 ❗️DEADLINE: 18th of February The Memory Studies Association Nordic together with The Institute for Urban Research (IUR) at Malmö University, Department of Society, Culture and Identity (SKI) at Malmö University and the network “A New Generation of Scholars of Antisemitism” at Lund University are hosting a #conference on memory’s role in sustaining or confronting racism. More specifically they are exploring it through the lense of #conviviality - the process of cohabitation and co-creation across differences. At this conference, they are focusing on the #Nordic setting and the effect that the cultural #memory of intercultural exchanges, especially colonialism, externally and internally, has had in the Nordic countries, with an emphasis on the last decades‘ far-right terrorist attacks. In that regard, they are calling for panel, roundtable, paper and art-based proposals that investigate potentialities, problematics, and preconditions of conviviality, co-creation and collaboration. They invite the contributors to go beyond offering critique from a detached position 🥳The conference itself will also be a convivial event, taking place in the midst of a cultural festival produced by movements and community groups in #Malmö. Grateful to be elected president of the European Movement International… and ready to rumble ! Why? Because politics is a question of momentum more than anything. It needs organisations and people to drive the momentum forward. For much of its illustrious past, the European Movement has been that organisation. It was there befóre the Council of Europe and the organisations that are now the European Union — from ’48 on. Which tells you an important lesson that today we often forget: ideas come before actions, and European unification is possible if —and only if— there is broad mobilisation of popular and public opinion before politics and institutions. That has always has been the case, and today more than ever. One of the very important take-aways from the Conference on the Future of Europe is that citizens are ahead of politicians in their thinking about Europe… and more impatient when it comes to results. European values are under threat, the European spirit is actively being undermined, European policies are faltering or failing… and at the heart of all that is European politics itself falling short. Time to push back ! The European Movement has a chance to energise people around the European ideal, especially in countries like the UK or Hungary where being ‘European’ is a tangible political and societal choice, or in the Balkans where the geopolitical need for Europe is clearest, and around issues like EU reform where the fate of European integration is really in the balance. It’s an honour to get this mandate. It has been fifty years since a Belgian was last president of the European Movement —Jean Rey— and the second and probably best known president was no less than Paul- Henri Spaak. He said in ’48: ‘It is my solid conviction that Europe, if it does not organise itself, if it remains splintered along national lines, will fall into decay. I try to organise Europe, to make Europe, that is the ideal to which I strive with all my powers.’ Three quarters of a century on, I couldn’t have said it better: Time to get Europe moving again !

How would you display your country in an international exhibition? This question became a particularly salient one for new states as they sought to showcase their independent statehood to the rest of the world. The Israeli pavillion at Expo Montreal in 1967 became a renowned success. Designed under the leadership of pioneering architect Arieh Sharon, the pavillion included an exhibition area where one of the original Dead Sea Scrolls was put on display, a dark room describing the Holocaust and a bright room that described the birth of Israel. https://lnkd.in/dFMvVUms My forthcoming book chapter on the performative aspects of new statehood in international society will include this and other displays by new states.
