What would you like to see the new government do to support older people in the workplace? “Creating a more localized, open approach to employment support – with high standards of support for the over 50s – is the right way to go. Our own research and testing shows that explicitly-targeted, localised support could make a big difference." Says our Deputy Director for Work, Emily Andrews. Employment Services Specialist : Workforce Australia, Disability Employment Services, Labour Hire, Vocational Education.
The release of the Australian Government response to the House Select Committee on Workforce Australia Employment Services reports last week demonstrates continued consistently in the commitment from Government to work in a person-centered, co-designed approach that is placed based, supports the individual and has strong linkages with Employers as a key partner. It strongly references enablers such as policy design, agility and IT system enhancements to ensure services are meaningful and not transactional. Positively, these elements are of similar dialogue to the Disability Employment Reforms and what we have seen in the released for RTF for the New Voluntary Parents Program. Employment Services isn't a transactional contract, it is a psychological relationship between parties to ensure the best goal setting, progress activities and sustainable support is provided to those most furtherest from the labour market. Online Employment Services has its place, just as much as Youth and any other cohort servicing. Key is knowing the pivot points of when an individual is best placed with which servicing will ensure government expected outcomes, funding supports to provision of services and individuals not slipping through the cracks. https://lnkd.in/gztigZnu #Employment #Reforms #PersonCentred #Outcomes #RedTapeReduction #CoDesign #Careers #Policy #Progress #Support

With Labour winning the general election, it's important that recruiters and employers know what could be on the horizon. I don't claim to know everything where politics is concerned, but here's what I gather from their manifesto: 1️⃣ Labour have pledged their commitment to equality in the workplace, including closing the gender pay gap, supporting neurodiversity, and protecting workers with terminal illnesses. Large firms will be required to develop action plans to close their gender pay gaps, and ethnicity and disability pay gap reporting will be made mandatory. 2️⃣ They have pledged to deliver a genuine living wage and ban exploitative zero hours contracts. What the living wage is at this point, I'm unsure. 3️⃣ They plan to reform the law to end the practice of "fire and rehire" and strengthen redundancy rights and protections. 4️⃣ They have pledged to establish basic individual rights for all workers from day one, ending the current arbitrary system that leaves workers waiting up to two years to access the basic rights of protection against unfair dismissal, parental leave and sick pay. 5️⃣Labour want to make flexible working the default from day one for all workers where it is reasonably feasible. 6️⃣ They want to strengthen protections against redundancy 7️⃣ They pledge to put mental health on par with physical health in our workplaces. How do these changes leave you feeling? #LabourParty #GeneralElection #NewGovernment #Workplace #Recruitment

With the recent change in the UK Government, the Labour Party's proposed employment law changes could reshape the workplace. Key proposals include: 🔹 Simplified Employment Status: Only 'workers' and 'genuinely self-employed'. 🔹 Enhanced Employment Rights: Basic rights from day one, including sick pay and protection against unfair dismissal. 🔹 Default Flexible Working: Available from the first day of employment. 🔹 Improved Family-Friendly Rights: Extended maternity/paternity leave and new bereavement leave. 🔹 Zero Hours Contracts Consultation: Protecting workers from exploitation. 🔹 Boosted Trade Union Rights: Enhanced recognition and bargaining rights. 🔹 Mandatory Ethnicity Pay Gap Reporting: For large companies. 🔹 Fair Pay Initiatives: Genuine living wage and removal of age-based wage bands. 🔹 Stronger Redundancy and TUPE Rights: Better protections for workers. 🔹 Menopause Rights: Requiring large organisations to produce Menopause Action Plans. Employers should start reviewing current practices to prepare for these potential changes. 📢 NEW REPORT! This week, we've released the third report in our 2024 series on the UK's #SeasonalWorkerScheme. This time, covering living and working conditions, as experience by workers on the scheme. 'Not Here for the Weather' highlights experiences of intensive work and poor working conditions, where workers are often faced with unrealistic picking targets and a deeply concerning culture of bullying, humiliation, harassment and threats: - 1 in 6 workers surveyed reported experiencing racist comments/behaviour at work (16.7%). Our data also showed that discrimination was exercised through the allocation of working hours, pay rates, the likelihood of being sent home from work early, and underpayment of piece rates. - We found issues with workers accessing sick pay and healthcare, with more than half (55.9%) indicating that they did not know if they get paid sick leave. - We also found gaps in the provision of access to bathing and toilet facilities. We heard reports of mould and damp throughout caravans, holes in exterior walls letting wind through, and broken showers. - Concerning accommodation, only 1 in 5 workers surveyed said that they had enough privacy (20.6%). Alarmingly, just over a 3rd of people surveyed said that they felt safe in their accommodation (37.1%). We have made a set of recommendations to government, including ensuring terms and conditions of employment are shared with workers in their country of origin, providing an emergency fund for workers and establishing adequate and independent complaints mechanisms. This study is based on interviews and surveys with more than 400 seasonal worker visa holders conducted by our research partners Rosmini, CASL and SEEAC.
