Big news at Orbex! 🌌 Great to see that Orbex have recently secured a huge £16.7million in its latest funding round. This boost, which is led by six backers including the Scottish National Investment Bank, venture capital firms, and strategic investors, marks a key moment as Orbex gears up for its next phase of development. This increase of funding will accelerate the development of Prime, which is Orbex's cutting-edge rocket designed to revolutionise satellite transportation into Low Earth Orbit. At 19 meters long and powered by renewable bio-fuel, Prime not only promises efficiency but also significantly reduces carbon emissions. This aligns with Orbex's commitment to sustainability and their goal to achieve carbon neutrality. By investing, we're not only supporting technological innovation but also contributing to the larger goal of sustainability in space exploration. I think this news marks a positive move forward and commitment to space sustainability. Looking ahead, Orbex are poised for continued growth with plans for a Series D funding round on the horizon. As testing progresses and the first launch approaches, I think Orbex are set to solidify its position as Europe's premier orbital launch business.🌠 How do you think this increase of funding help accelerate renewable rockets? #SpaceInnovation #OrbitalLaunch #Sustainability

Pleased to share my story for Aviation Week Network about South Korea's burgeoning space sector and startup community. Excerpts below: Nara Space Technology, a South Korean manufacturer of small satellites, announced on May 31 that it had raised $14.5 million in a Series B fundraising that included participation from Samsung Securities and the Korea Development Bank, bringing its total raised to $24.3 million. It plans to use part of its fresh funding to establish a satellite constellation system to monitor methane—a growing market. Nara Space has been working with its consortium partners Seoul National University, the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute and Poland’s Scanway Space on a methane-monitoring satellite project with a planned launch in the second half of 2026. The consortium plans to build a constellation of at least a dozen satellites. South Korea is part of the Global Methane Pledge launched in late 2021 that aims to cut anthropogenic methane emissions at least 30% by 2030 from 2020 levels. Nara Space has been a rising star in South Korea’s space sector since November 2023, when it launched the country’s first commercial nanosatellite, Observer 1A, on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from California’s Vandenberg Space Force Base. Following its successful Series B fundraising round, Nara Space will focus on launching its Observer-1B twin satellite and strengthening the foundation for its satellite mass production line, CEO Jae-Pil Park said in a statement. “Our goal is to operate a cluster of 100 small satellites within the next five years to provide real-time global Earth monitoring services across different sensors and wavelengths.” #korea #southkorea #space #satellite #climatechange #netzero #aerospace #venturecapital #startups #samsung #investing https://lnkd.in/eSYzG2SH

🚀 Exciting News in Space Logistics! 🌌 D-Orbit, the Italian space logistics firm, has successfully closed a two-part Series C funding round, raising a whopping 150 million euros! 💸 This new inflow of capital is set to revolutionise space-based cloud computing and in-orbit servicing systems, pushing the frontier of what's possible in space logistics. D-Orbit has already achieved impressive milestones with 16 missions and 14 ION orbital transfer vehicles flown, and seven more missions lined up for 2025. The Series C round was led by Japan's Marubeni Corp, with participation from notable investors including Avantgarde, CDP Venture Capital, and the European Innovation Council. This investment is not just about increasing numbers but fundamentally transforming D-Orbit's operations and accelerating global initiatives in space transportation and logistics. The new funds will enable D-Orbit to delve deeper into in-orbit servicing and space-based cloud computing while developing new space vehicles focused on satellite-life extension and space-debris removal. The aim is to create a 'circular space economy,' turning space debris into valuable resources and facilitating the manufacture of interplanetary spacecraft. This ambitious step is set to propel the industry towards sustainable space exploration and utilisation. It's fantastic to see such innovation and investment in the space sector, and I can't wait to see what D-Orbit achieves next. 🚀 #SpaceInnovation #SpaceTech #FutureOfSpace

Crazy Rich Asians ? Space Edition! Almost $1b invested in Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology (SSST) is a massive investment, likely to represent around 15% of the global total invested in space-tech in 2024. The investment will support SSST in deploying the G60 low Earth orbit constellation of over 12,000 satellites. An initial 108 satellites are expected to be launched this year. “It’s the largest round of funding we’ve seen in Chinese commercial space by far” said Blaine Curcio, Founder of Orbital Gateway Consulting. In our monthly column, #VentureSpace , written by Connor Sattely ; we share with you every single space-tech deal globally, every month. We transparently show who’s included, and who’s not included in our list and explain why. If the space-tech industry was lumbering towards the launchpad in January ($475m globally), then February was liftoff: space-tech startups raised a whopping $1.7b in funding in February. Space sector in India is poised for transformational change. Government of India with far-reaching decision has allowed upto 100% Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in space sector. 100% investment is permitted in satellites and 49% investment is permitted in launch vehicles and rockets. Further, component manufacturing has been permitted 100% FDI under automatic route. This would provide huge boost to private sector in space industry. #spacetechnology ISRO - Indian Space Research Organization Idam Infrastructure Advisory Pvt. Ltd.
