There is a lot spoken about the recent rise in Female Labor Force Participation in India, but not much is spoken about the hours worked by women across India. On average women work 35 hours a week in India. Did you know that Delhi and Rajasthan record some of the highest number of hours worked by women in a week, recording a total of 48 and 45 hours worked respectively. Jharkhand albeit records the lowest at 26 hours per week. Interestingly, there's a regional variation with more hours worked by women in the northwest and southern states as opposed to the eastern states. Our #datainsights section, featured under the newly launched ‘Economic Policies for Women-Led Development’ initiative, showcases the variation in female work hours across Indian states. #Weekendvibes So, #Womensday posts over. #Empowerment not only in #socialmedia. How #TamilNadu’s women are transforming the #manufacturing landscape? #TamilNadu, a state in southern India, has a significant #female workforce, with 43% of the country`s women #employed in its #manufacturing sector, according to the Indian Labour Ministry`s Annual Survey of Industry (2019-20). #Krishnagiri is among Tamil Nadu’s most backward districts and ranks poorly on almost all social parameters, especially those pertaining to #women. However, in the last three years, things have #turned around. Today, there are more #jobs for #women than the district can fill. What happened? Thanks to #Government's social & industrial initiatives. Now it has become an #EV manufacturing hub. After the Global Brand #VinFast ground breaking in #Thoothukudi (#Tuticorin), the down South of #TamilNadu, this region will become a big #EV cluster, housing much more #female workforce. https://lnkd.in/gQ_BGnP6 #business #EV #automotive #womenempowerment #womenatwork #VinFast

Only about 37% of the 69.2 million women in India are actively employed. This number for our country is quite low. And I belong to Rajasthan, where you will find very rare women working actively. In fact, Rajasthan is ranked third in women's unemployment out of all states in India. So, when my wife became a co-founder of our business, she made it clear to me: "We need to make opportunities for women through our business." Being a woman herself, she understood the situation well. And to help women, we decided to take two simple actions in our organisation. It's been years since we started, and we've seen more women joining our workforce. 1. We introduced flexible work options like remote work and flexible hours. We know many women have caregiving responsibilities or other commitments, so we wanted to make it easier for them to work. 2. We made efforts to attract and keep female talent. This included things like targeted recruitment and partnerships with women-focused groups. We also made sure our job descriptions were inclusive and appealing to a diverse range of candidates. I know we are far away from increasing the above employment rate for women, but as businesses, if we can try a little extra to create a safer, more inclusive place for women, I am sure the above number will increase. #womenemployment #business #hiring #entrepreneurship #linkedinforcreators

~ 37% of the labor force ~ 48% of the population These are the women of India Yet: ~ 80% of rural women toil in the agriculture sector ~ 7 crore women contribute to the economy without receiving any wages ~ 34.3 crore women are employed in the unorganized sector Their efforts often go unseen Their contributions are undervalued They remain clustered at the bottom of the economic pyramid But what if we could change this story? By simply offering equal opportunities to women, we could add ₹77 lakh crore to our GDP by 2025 How do we make this a reality? It all comes down to one fundamental issue: Safety Equal opportunities can’t be created or thrive If women aren’t safe in their workplaces No struggle can ever succeed without women standing side by side with men This Raksha Bandhan shouldn’t just be about protecting our sisters It should be a commitment to protect every woman in this country A commitment not just to protection But to empowerment To respect And to equality For every woman in India #rakhi #safety

#AstitvaGrameenHastshilp, a social enterprise unit of #AstitvaFoundationChhattisgarh, is playing a pivotal role in transforming the lives of rural women across #Chhattisgarh. It is a movement that bridges the gap between tradition and modernity, rural and global, gender inequality and financial independence. At its core, #AstitvaGrameenHastshilp provides a seedbed to #handicrafts production as a #cottageindustry thereby forming the foundation of #socialdevelopment and transforming lives at the grassroots level in Chhattisgarh. We provide a support system with tools, training, platforms, and capital through ‘Upskilling-to-Self-Reliance’ model. What sets this initiative apart is its ability to connect rural artisans to global markets. Through e-commerce platforms and collaborations with international buyers, these handcrafted products are now reaching customers worldwide. This #Global connection not only brings in much-needed income but also validates their work on a global scale, giving them a sense of pride and dignity. The products carry with them stories of resilience, culture, and craftsmanship, which resonate deeply with conscious consumers across the world. Financial independence achieved through #AstitvaGrameenHastshilp has brought significant changes to the social fabric of #ruralcommunities, enabling them to make informed decisions regarding their families, education, and health, improving their overall quality of life. The initiative also promotes #genderequality in rural areas by integrating women into the economic framework and providing them with leadership opportunities within the handicraft units. The ripple effect of this initiative extends as a powerful vehicle for social change. By fostering #EconomicIndependence among women, #AstitvaGrameenHastshilp strengthens communities, reduces #Poverty, and supports #sustainabledevelopment. As these women become financially empowered, they inspire others around them, creating a cycle of empowerment and #progress. #WomenEmpowerment #AtmanirbharBharat #RuralEconomy #sustainableliving #rurallife #SkillIndia #womenentrepreneurs #socialenterprise #CGUPDATE

Founder, S.L.A.P I Gender & Women Safety Talks I IVLP Fellow I POSH Consultant I Author I Former Journalist
As an employer/HR personnel/top management, can you tell what are the top 3 things women value in a workplace? A recent study by CRISIL/DBS bank, asked the same question to 800 women across 10 Indian cities. A shocking 42% respondents said they faced challenges while negotiating salaries, while 23% replied they could perceive a pay gap owing to their gender. This at a time when we just celebrated women's day themed #inspiringinclusion calling all stakeholders to #investinwomen with great fanfare. Interestingly, Kolkata emerged as the city where employers had most gender equitable policies, with 96% women saying they DID NOT face any challenges in salary negotiations. In Hyderabad, only 41% women felt their gender was not a barrier in their financial negotiations. In Ahmedabad, this number further fell to a meagre 33%. This disparity in gender pay gap could be due to 2 major reasons -- 1. The women employees undervaluing themselves during the negotiations (stemming from their social conditioning & upbringing) 2. The employer (consciously or unconsciously) carrying a gender bias While a separate long post can be written about how dropping the conscious gender bias will empower your organization (not the other way round), here are few insights from the study for those who wish to create a robust policy of inclusion but don't know where to start. The answer is simple, ASK. Ask women. Here is what the respondents said, they want from their employer in order to show enhanced productivity at workplace. 😍 In Delhi, respondents valued childcare support offered at workplace 😍 In Chennai, women valued extended maternity benefits 😍 In Pune, salaried women considered sabbatical policies valuable 😍 In Kolkata, women found mentorship & career development programs valuable Now to address the question, WHY. Why bother creating gender inclusive policies. For starters, did you know, per Forbes, companies ranking high in gender diversity outperform their competition by 15 percent? Can you think of more reasons, share your experiences/insights in comments below. #genderpaygapreveal #genderequity #inclusivehiring #womenatwork
