As I was wrapped up in planning two weddings last year, an older adult also part of the LGBTQ+ community whom I met from another nonprofit, told me to make sure that while I’m standing at the alter, take a moment and look around the ceremony at all of the people from different parts in my life who came together for this special day to celebrate my Wife and I. They told me to think about how all of these people would have never met if it wasn’t for them supporting us. I had never felt so loved and cared for in that moment at the alter and it was one of my favorite memories of our wedding because it allowed me to slow down and live in the moment. ❤️🏳️🌈

When I was in the Peace Corps, my Ethiopian friends told me to always make time to stop for coffee and chat with my neighbors. I try my best to make time to slow down, meet with people, and not get too caught up in the grind.

A small but mighty piece of feedback I got from my favorite professor in college: be precise and concise. While proving incredibly apropos to my career now in marketing, it's also how I think about using words with intention in all parts of my life.

A friend of mine in college told me everyday her mother would end the day telling her daughter a favorite thing about her and that she did it even on a challenging day. You can always find something good in a day! I have done this for all 4 of my children everyday (until they moved out), and when they are home they still expect to hear it!

When I was in high school, my neighbor, Mr. Larry Allen, used to remind me that I could not just live my life to make others proud, that I had to it do it for myself too. Sometimes your life can be about you, and that’s ok. Those words of wisdom really reshaped my world.

My mother always told me to think with my head and not with my feet! It wasn't until I was older did I get her meaning. 😀
