The diversity of the talks was eye-opening to the diversity of the lab-on-chip value chain, from chip manufacturing to cell culture and analytical technologies. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀: 💡 𝙄𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙪𝙛𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜: Technologies such as digital light processing stereolithography, selective laser etching, molding, 3D printing, laser drilling, photolithography, and microfabrication are revolutionizing chip manufacturing, enabling advanced organ-on-chip applications. 🤝 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝘼𝙥𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙘𝙝: The event underscored the critical role of collaboration, innovation but also standardization to foster collaboration. We are excited to integrate these insights into our work at Lambda-X, continuing to push the boundaries of optical engineering solutions. 🧠 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙭 𝙈𝙤𝙙𝙚𝙡𝙨: On the manufacturing side, miniaturization and the incorporation of more features, including 3D structures, are being integrated into chips. I am beyond thrilled with the launch of CoLab. Tech. in Adelaide, Australia. Why have we developed and launched Colab Tech? ⁉ Australia imports more than 80% of its medical devices. The USA imports less than 20% of their medical devices. 😥 Australias rate of Industry - Academia collaboration, is the lowest in the OECD. 😟 Australias economic complexity ranking is 93 from 133 countries, sitting just above Pakistan and below Uganda, and we continue to slide further behind. 😔 A widely recognised critical skills gap in Med Tech manufacturing, including quality, regulatory and commercialisation. Imagine the potential of building an entire dialysis machine using a 3D printer! This breakthrough could not only reduce costs and eliminate manufacturing waste but could also make this life-saving technology more accessible to those with limited resources or living in remote areas. MIT's team has taken a significant step towards this goal by demonstrating fully 3D-printed, three-dimensional solenoids. While there are still hurdles to overcome in developing electronic devices that are entirely 3D printed, this accomplishment brings us one step closer to the possibility of creating medical devices outside of a factory setting. This innovation has the potential to revolutionize the healthcare industry and improve access to vital medical devices for those who need it most. IMDRF - International Medical Device Regulators Forum 2023 Berlin Day 1 - excellent discussion on the challenges facing regulation going forwards. Issues such as AI, medical software as a device, 3-D printing of implants to mention a few . . . it is a brave new world with plenty of issues that need a solution, and solutions that need to be global. These will need to be supported by global terminology that will include access to clinical data from EHRs and medical device classifications. #SNOMEDCT

Read about our collaboration on vascularized microtissues! We would like to share a paper featuring contributions from our colleague Florian Siemenroth. The paper, titled "Continuously Perfusable, Customisable, and Matrix-Free Vasculature on a Chip Platform," marks a significant advancement in tissue engineering. Special thanks to François Chesnais, PhD and Lorenzo Veschini from King's College London for the great collaboration.  Creating vascularized cellular environments in vitro has long been a challenge in tissue engineering.
