Weekly Words of Wisdom ** from your college coach #1 If you’re a rising college-bound senior, you’re wise to spend the summer creating a balanced college list of likely, target and reach colleges, developing your personal statement and other college essays, visiting colleges (online or in-person) and studying to take or re-take SATs and ACTs (unless you are planning to only apply to UCs and/or CSUs, which are remaining test-blind). #2 If you’re not working or doing anything interesting this summer, create your own project! Delve into something that interests you and create, create, create. It could be coordinating a backyard carnival for charity or creating a youtube channel on how to make the perfect pizza dough. Colleges are interested in interesting students! Need more direction? Contact me at katheryn@ptwcoach.com

Director & Senior Marketing Strategist at Vision Digital | 💪 Marketing strategy for SME's that want clarity and direction on how to grow past $2m in annual recurring revenue 💎
If you ever get told (or make a self determination) that you need a single solution for your marketing and no one has done any analysis into your goals, target market, and problems…. You will probably be better off just donating your marketing budget to the local homeless shelter. At least that way there will be some good that comes from it. So next time you think “I need to run ads” or “a new website is exactly what we need”, properly assess your business before diving head first into everything

One of my biggest lessons - everything is a no until you ask. This picture here? I asked some of my favorite running brands to donate product for a 5k event I'm planning - and it's safe to say there's a couple grand worth of product from 12 different brands, ready for the runners, that cost me nothing. One DM into their Instagrams - and magic! Now let's not get confused with becoming obnoxious, demanding, or greedy - but how will anyone know your request, needs, and wants if you don't speak the heck up? No one is a mind-reader. Do not assume the answer will be no. Whether it's partnerships, negotiations, opportunities, events - nothing will limit you more than yourself. This ability to ask will also help grow your confidence.

It's about more than making popcorn ... When you volunteer to be involved with your kid's sports or fine arts program (or really any non-profit) you are taking a role in an organization. You are now helping run a business, a business that's product and/or service is to support your students activities. It requires time. It requires enthusiasm. It requires a budget. It requires marketing. It requires tools. It requires people. Sound like a business? Yep. Run it like one.

😲Any tips on bribing a new school to give us a place?? Seriously…we’re moving from Wyre Forest to Warwickshire and the secondary school we think is best has 4 already on the wait list for year 8 🤯 Deadline for applying for my daughter to start next Sept is end Oct and although it’s possible we may move and have proof of the new address by then - lets face it…solicitors and estate agents aren’t on a school deadline are they! So - my question is…does anyone have any tips to us getting a place, so that I don’t have to ‘homeschool’ for any length of time? Odessa I know you moved to a different part of the country…how did you manage schools? -------------------- I'm Wendy Rayner-Hall, my business is Admin Fairy:The Agency (AFTA) and yes I'm using Peter Pan as my joy every day! Helping you save time to grow your business. Operational declutterer is what I do by transforming the operations in your charity as a fractional office fairy! Using facts to trigger an emotional response: how to do it Lots of marketing works on the basis of stimulus:response and there's plenty of research that suggests emotional stimuli work best when it comes to driving action. In fact, even though we generally tend to think we make rational decisions based on logic, they're often still driven by emotions. So, what if you could combine the two? What if you could appeal to people based both on facts and feelings? Well, you can, and it can be especially helpful if you're a charity. The image we've used to illustrate this post is from an campaign we ran. We paired startling statistics with haunting images of a woman helped by this charity, using facts to create feelings. You can do the same. And it's not just about 'plucking heartstrings' you can use facts to create feelings of joy, satisfaction and more besides. Where can you get your statistics? 1. Your own numbers 2. Published research 3. Polling you commission Give it a try 👍

Couldn't agree more with Jane Devitt about valuing your time, especially in professional settings. While giving back and passion projects have their place, it's crucial to discern between genuine opportunities for growth and exploitation of your skills. Saying "no" to free work can be empowering and sets healthy boundaries. Let's choose carefully where we invest our time and expertise, ensuring it aligns with our values and goals. Here's to a week of strategic decision-making and standing firm in our worth! 💪🏼 #ValueYourTime #Boundaries #Professionalism
Valuing my time has become more imperative both personally and particularly professionally: last week a few people picked up on an article by Ellinor Otter talking about working for free being a 'no no' and the type of face she would make when asked to do so. It was a frank article and fair play to her, I admire the upfront nature of the younger work force! I then had a brief comment exchange with my fab pal Lisa-Nicole Dunne on what qualifies 'as free' both of us having worked with, and for charities through our careers and the great value in that: there are times to say 'yes' for sure, as an investment in your future or just a good quid pro quo. Taking a strategic view is important when asked to do work for free. I have been on no fee board positions with both Sandford Park School and DSPCA for years but I see this as giving back, as passion projects almost. As a young person it is imperative to exchange some free time to network, get involved and do the odd favour to learn, to grow and you really are missing out if you don't. A few years ago I got a call from a charity who outlined in minute detail the person they were looking for, full time, at the end of the call it was introduced that it was entirely for free, I remember almost spitting my coffee over my laptop (in fact I probably did), at the brass neck of said person, who is a very successful business person. I know that person doesn't do gigs for free. It taught me a lot. A gentle 'no', is the most fabulous of all boundaries for me, honestly, a walk in the park is worth more to me now. Leaking power is not on our side ladies, (unless of course someone is offering you a talking platform with great exposure, or will give you a write up on their website, in an article, now THAT is worth doing), so this week think carefully about what you say 'yes' to, think it through and understand you are doing it for the rest of us. As Ellinor says "If you don't you are letting the side down", below my face when asked for a freebie! would you cross this woman? have a good week!
