The other day I caught a webinar from FT Live hosted by Siddharth Venkataramakrishnan on Data-Driven Transformation in Financial Services and I wanted to share my reflections on its key points. 🎯 Venki Subramanian from Reltio emphasises the timeless pursuit of customer-centricity but highlights three critical obstacles: underutilising invested technology, not harnessing available data, and organisational silos. My thoughts: While cutting-edge tech and data are vital, success hinges on a culture that explores with curiosity, embeds through continuous improvement, to ultimately transform them into strategic assets. Patience is also key in this, learning curves are not straightforward. 🧠 WLDA’s Founder and CEO, Asha Saxena suggests prioritising problem-solving over adopting 'new technology' for its own sake. Real business value should drive tech and data choices, avoiding the allure of shiny projects without long-term impact. My reflection: In the transformation space, awareness of biases and informed decision-making are crucial. Ask yourself: Does this 'new tech' align with our business goals? Is it ethical? Is it reliable? What are its commercial, regulatory, and operational implications… 💡AWS’s Ruben Falk underscores the critical role of data in building trust, emphasising its ability to help us understand customer behaviours and offer tailored recommendations for their financial wellbeing. He shares interesting case studies from NatWest and Vanguard. My addition: Prioritising customer financial wellbeing isn't only a strategic choice that could lead to customer trust and retention; it is also becoming a mandatory requirement by external regulators, like FCA Consumer Duty in the UK. Doing so proactively not only builds trust but also meets evolving industry standards on protecting customers.
