"Session 10: Europe’s Role in Shaping the Future of Space: Leveraging strengths for global leadership" - " Europe has always been at the forefront of advocating for best practices in various critical aspects of space activities, notably in areas such as safety, security, sustainability, and international cooperation. In the current, increasingly complex, strategic and vulnerable environment both in space and on Earth, promoting these core values and principles is not only essential for fostering responsible space exploration but can also be a key element in promoting Europe as a credible leader in the global space ecosystem. Against the backdrop of the EUSL but also looking more broadly at the way in which Galileo and Copernicus have developed as global benchmarks and are used by international partners all over the world, and at how ESA has collaborated with international partners in multiple areas, including in space exploration and scientific missions; this session will look at key European strengths, and at how these can be leveraged to foster international partnerships and position Europe as a global partner in the international space field. "Session 4: Ensuring long term autonomous access to space for Europe" "Autonomous access to space is a prerequisite for European strategic autonomy and an indispensable element in the European space ecosystem, without which there is no autonomous space policy. The retirement of Ariane 5 in July 2023 coupled with delays to Ariane 6 and Vega-C temporarily left Europe without this key independent access to space. Europe has since navigated these hurdles to regain its autonomous launch capabilities, but in the interim period, there was a need to turn towards non-European launch service providers. This session will look at lessons learnt from this situation and from current and past launcher programmes, and at measures that are put in place to ensure long term and permanent autonomous access to space for Europe going forward. It will look at how policy is evolving and at the important role that a more competitive launcher ecosystem and the introduction of new space players can play as part of this solution." European Space Forum 2024, 24 june - Isabella Poldrugo Acting Head of Unit, Space Policy, DG DEFIS, European Commission - Toni Tolker-Nielsen Acting Director of Space Transportation, European Space Agency (ESA) -Raúl Verdú Co-Founder & Chief Business Development Officer, PLD Space - Charlotte Lang Charlotte Lang, Public Affairs Manager, Arianespace - Olivier Lemaitre Secretary General, Eurospace

🎞️ Check out my highlights from this year’s Space Symposium! Established by the Space Foundation as the preeminent gathering of the international space community, this years event united over 12,000 space professionals, corporate leaders and key decision-makers from more than 40 countries to inform, engage, and foster connections. With cutting-edge space technologies showcased by over 230 innovators these are my 3 main impressions from the show: 1️⃣ Space really does matter - to everyday life here on earth. From communications to position, navigation and timing (PNT), space has deep connections to what we do every day. 2️⃣ Space remains hotly contested - from adversaries who want to dominate it, to space junk to solar flares to spoofing and jamming. Resiliency in space remains at the forefront of people’s thinking. 3️⃣ Space tech, well, is just cool - from rovers, to space tents, mechanical arms, satellite traffic management systems, to complex space suits and more, the show floor was teaming with amazing tech from across the globe (Japan, UK, Italy, Slovenia, Scotland and more had a presence). It was like being a kid in a candy store! 📄 Stay tuned for upcoming articles in Inside GNSS on updates relating to Lockheed Martin’s GPSIII/IIIF and a 5-company PNT round up!

What an incredible 2 days at the inaugural UK IOSM conference! I thoroughly enjoyed MCing the first day. Sincere thanks to all attendees, speakers, and the UK Space Agency for their invaluable support. Key takeaways for me: The UK government's commitment to IOSM through policy, regulation, and funding is steadfast. Space sustainability must be at the heart of future activities to protect our planet. While exploring Mars is exciting, protecting our orbital environment through international collaboration is crucial. We need to think in terms of capabilities, use cases, and engaging narratives beyond just technology. Enthusing the next generation is vital, as they will build the future space economy. The potential applications of space are exceptionally exciting, extending well beyond typical contexts. I'm excited to see how Satellite Applications Catapult Beyond Earth Mission can help to drive the IOSM market forward, supporting with TRL Advancement, Policy, Risk and Regulation, Commercialisation and Demonstration infrastructure.

Last week Exotrail was in Tokyo, Japan 🇯🇵 to attend two big international space events. The week kicked off with SPACETIDE Foundation, and our Chief Commercial Officer, Sébastien Duménil, seized the opportunity to strengthen the bonds with our Japanese and other APAC partners. Exotrail also sponsored the 6th Summit for Space Sustainability, co-hosted by Secure World Foundation and the National Space Policy Secretariat, Cabinet Office, Japan - The Government of Japan. Our Chief of staff to the CEO, Maxime Jambon, brought the experience of a neo-space services provider to a roundtable on Active Debris Removal (#ADR), drawing parallels with the market of in-orbit delivery. The ADR roundtable was animated by Ian Christensen, and gave us the opportunity to pragmatically discuss the main threats in orbit and how to collectively overcome them. We insisted on the need for political momentum and the synergies between all In Orbit Services, if we want to bring cost efficient and relevant services addressing the next in-orbit challenges. With Exotrail, the French delegation stated its commitment to space sustainability, with CNES Vice-Director orbital systems and applications, Laurent Francillout, alongside Eutelsat OneWeb Head of Regulatory and Policy, Chehineze BOUAFIA - whose company just made it to platinum ranking by in the Space Sustainability Rating 👏
