I partner with companies in the AEC space to find Top Design Talent | Recruiting Architects, Engineers, Construction and Development talent | AEC Recruiter & Owner @ Talent-Smiths Recruiting
Design and construction companies are always battling with Growth. It's just the truth. I've been in those shoes myself. Projects are so large, carry so much liability, and require so much attention that who has time to dedicate to HR and hiring? These projects often make the practice. Senior staff members and business owners are almost always swamped with meetings, have BIG PROBLEMS to solve, and can't make hiring a priority. Honestly, I get it. I would watch my boss jump from meetings to meetings all day long. How was the hiring process supposed to be smooth? This is why we place so much emphasis on a partnership role with every team we help build. They are way better off focusing on the problems in their projects and letting us find them that next great team member. Architects: Which type of leader are you? A: Overseeing every detail–from daily interactions to BIM settings. B: Trusting your team–giving people the freedom to engage. → “A” is the quickest way to limit your team’s creativity and efficiency. Imagine the impact on your projects if your team doesn’t feel like they can grab a glass of water or go take a brief walk without oversight. It’s stifling. → “B” is the foundation of success. You’ve gone through great lengths to hire the best talent… It’s counterintuitive to restrict their ability. So, instead, you let go and trust that they can do it. (And support them when they need it.) If you want your firm to truly reach it’s full potential: → Empower your team → Remove barriers → Give them autonomy You’ll feel better. They’ll feel better. The work will be better. --- ♻️ Repost if this is helpful #architects #architeture

🏢 Architects: I know you build worlds, but remember, the only person who can determine your future is you. I know the profession sometimes tries to do this for us. After all, you've put a lot of effort into becoming an architect. ➡️ more school than most of your friends in other industries ➡️ a lot of time accumulation AXP (or IDP) hours ➡️ more time away from family and friends studying for the AREs (and in states like CA, the CSE) And as soon as you leave school, everyone is asking you. ❓How many AXP hours do you have? ❓How many AREs have you taken? And once you've jumped all the hurdles and can finally call yourself an architect, the race to firm leader begins. ❓ Are you going to start your own practice? It's super hard to step back from the path and ask yourself: ✨ Am I happy here? ✨ Am I just going through the motions or doing things I'm passionate about? ✨Is what I'm doing contributing to the world in ways that I find most meaningful? Just remember the following: 🧠 It never hurts to keep your eyes open for what's next; you don't have a decision to make until you have a job offer. 🧠 Now more than ever, architects are doing different things beyond traditional practice, and they are getting more accessible and easier to find. 🧠 All of the experience you've accumulated up until now (personal and professional) is unique to you and gives you a unique perspective on whatever you do next - either in architecture or beyond. Are you doing what you love? #architects #careers #leadership _____________________ Hi, 👋🏻 I'm Evelyn Lee, FAIA | NOMA I've been on the client side for over a decade and have spent the last five years in tech, helping create exceptional employee experiences while growing the business. It's not always about being 'conventional' and fitting the stereotype! I admit, I don't know a whole lot about the NFL but the hard work and passion this guy has is truly incredible! This idea also applies to the professional world of engineering and hiring... While we all want to hire great engineers or architects, the real difference-makers are those who work hard and share mirror your values. As an engineering consultant, I always tell my clients to look for these qualities in their potential hires. Let's focus on more than just qualifications and experience. Let's prioritize work ethic and cultural fit to truly elevate our businesses. #development #engineering #architecture #superbowl #mahomes
