We had the honor of convening our Environmental Education (EE) Program grantee partners earlier this month at the beautiful Titlow Lodge Community Center in Tacoma for a workshop facilitated by the incredible Jose Gonzalez, M.S. The day was packed with thought-provoking discussions, interactive activities, and community building. Some highlights: ✨ Reflective activities like BEETLES Walk and Talk and “I Notice, I Wonder, It Reminds Me Of”, which encouraged mindfulness and observation in outdoor settings. ✨ Conversations on blending the “language of ecology” with the “language of social justice.” ✨ The start of a deep dive into decriminalizing practices and network leadership principles. ✨ Honoring Indigenous Knowledge – Incorporating Indigenous wisdom into environmental education practices. We also enjoyed learning from our grantee partners and their expertise in: 🔹 Climate Change and Environmental Education – A big thank you to Molly Griffiths of Pacific Education Institute for leading an insightful session on integrating climate education with considerations for youth engagement and management. 🔹 Leveraging Social Media for Impact – A heartfelt thanks to Rachel Easton of Harbor WildWatch for guiding a workshop on using social platforms to amplify environmental education work and fund development. We’re so grateful to all the grantee partners and to Jose for creating a space of trust, creativity, and shared learning. Events like this remind us of the importance of coming together to tackle the challenges we face and create more equitable and inclusive futures. #EnvironmentalEducation #ClimateAction #IndigenousKnowledge #EquityInEducation #CollaborationForGood

The author of this article highlights that most environmental education focuses primarily on activities like exploring nature or visiting museums. However, these approaches often miss addressing how children emotionally connect with Nature. Their findings suggest it's important to weave empathy with Nature into early childhood environmental education. Compared to action-based approaches, teaching methods that encourage empathy with Nature may better shape children's natural environmental thoughts and feelings, leading to longer-lasting impacts by fostering their intrinsic motivation for environmental care . #ChildrenandNature #EarthCare #ConnectiontoNature #EmpathyforNature 🌱

EXPERIENCE ECOLOGICAL EDUCATION For many, environmental education and activism is a redundant message, an annoyance, and the impetus for mushy paper straws in our drinks—a shrug-off. For others, the future of our environment is a reality that must be screamed, something that can no longer come in the form of a nudge or polite reminder. In the middle ground between this disparity lies Arcadia Earth: both a vessel for passionate environmental education and a delicate and enchanting exhibit that welcomes you as the change-maker, not the villain. The attached article give an overview of this great experiential learning opportunity at Arcadia Earth.
