And what better way to celebrate that than with this joyful picture from our team in Raleigh, North Carolina. As we close out this #Pride Month, they shared their four tips for how to be an ally in the workplace: 1️⃣ Educate yourself - this can be done by either researching via reputable sources online or talking to anyone you might know that’s willing to help you. 2️⃣ Provide a safe space - make sure that LGBT+ people around you know that you support them and provide a space for them to talk if that is something they need. 3️⃣ Active Listening - always make sure to actively listen as LGBT+ people talk to you. This is critical to understanding someone’s perspective. 4️⃣ Speak Up - if you see someone being oppressed in the workplace, you should either reach out to the victim or reach out to HR to report it. ⚡️🌈 The energy sector continues to fall behind other industries on the Stonewall Index, suggesting there's more to be done by organisations and individuals to foster a more inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ colleagues. ⚡️🌈 See our post below for some ideas on how you as an individual can support LGBTQ+ people in your day-to-day work and personal lives!
🌈 ⚡️Only 21% of people believe that organisations in the energy sector provide an inclusive environment for LGBT+ people ⚡️🌈 Whilst there has undoubtedly been progress made, data from the most recent Pride in Energy Survey suggests that there is more work to be done to embrace LGBT+ inclusion across the sector. With 14% of LGBT+ individuals in the sector being victim to or witnessing discriminatory behaviour in the past year, and 10% of people believing that their employer does not foster an inclusive environment, the sector needs to do more. At Moorhouse, we recently ran our LGBT+ allyship training course, which 100% of the energy sector leadership attended. It was a great session and we wanted to share our top tips to help create a workplace where everyone feels comfortable bringing their true selves to work. Let’s continue to strive for a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and welcoming space for everyone and show our support for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. What can you do to foster a Pride inclusive work environment: -Use gender-inclusive language -Establish an employee resource group for 2SLGBTQIA+ employees and allies -Incorporate personal pronouns into email signatures -Educate and raise awareness by hosting an inclusion workshop -Organise or participate in Pride events -Show visible support by wearing and displaying Pride -Create inclusive policies: Annually review company policies and seek feedback from 2SLGBTQIA+ employees.
