An incredibly important subject given there are people living in energy poverty whilst we in the first world enjoy the benefits of AI without so much as a second thought to the long-term impact. I'm all for AI (with the correct controls which are yet to be defined), but according to a WU researcher, training ChatGPT-3 required roughly the same amount of power as 1,000 average U.S. households would consume in a year!! And that was just the power required to train the model, never mind the daily use in the year since the research was conducted, nor the training of later versions! And let's not forget all the other chatbots out there - at this rate global power demand will soon exceed production! Something needs to change!
