21 awards made nation-wide through the PRO Housing Grant, including $3.3 million for our neighbors to the north in Philadelphia. Looks like they'll use that funding towards a wide range of activities, including: -A comprehensive action plan to preserve existing affordable units -Developing Climate Resilient Design Guidelines -A pilot rehabilitation project to repair flood damage in homes -Developing local code and departmental regulations to streamline affordable housing development -A market feasibility analysis to study the optimal ratio of affordable-to-market rate unit availability Sounds like pretty great stuff, given the major housing challenges we're facing in the region. You can read more about successful awards here: https://lnkd.in/ewg4S4g8 Thanks to efforts from Delaware's very own Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester, the PRO Housing Grant received a $100 mil allocation for FY24, a $15 mil increase from FY23. https://lnkd.in/ev-SXiNJ Hopefully we'll see a Delaware application to the program this year!

Maryland REALTORS®: Missing Middle Housing As Maryland endures a housing crisis that has grown to 150,000 homes, local governments need to rethink housing to accommodate the needs of their communities. One such solution is a type of housing that has been around for generations: Missing Middle Housing. It's time to bring it back now to ease a crisis that will only worsen if nothing is done. #MissingMiddleHousing Watch our Missing Middle Housing Video to learn more: https://lnkd.in/ekcF9XM3

I wanted to post some comments but this Linked In profile prohibits this unless you’re friends with them. Not sure if they’ve met a person with my tenacity when I strongly believe in something but I’m not inflexible. I’m open to discussing alternatives but nobody on the construction side of things wants to talk about ALL of the issues facing the home building industry. It’s the same sounding board over and over and nothing is getting accomplished. “It takes too long to get permits”, “the energy code is ridiculous” (fyi, some ppl in the code industry agree with this), “regulations need to be removed or loosened”, etc, etc. Let’s also remember the idea proposed to lawmakers from the BIAW of requiring jurisdictions to approve a plan if it’s stamped by an architect or engineer. That idea was met with a resounding disapproval from those in the code industry and design industry. My honest take from the many posts like this and the many discussions I’ve had with these individuals is, they don’t seem to want to listen to our concerns and feedback on their products and performance but they expect us to hear and acknowledge theirs. I wrote an article on this, Aron, and it has been met with silence from the NAHB and the building community. Also, what I explain in the article adds little to no cost. The biggest issue from our lens is “not being ready” for permit submittal, resubmittal and/or inspections. Why do brand new houses take 3 review cycles, Aron? What alternative energy code(s) are y’all proposing or are builders simply asking for no energy codes? Why are we seeing more and more damaged trusses installed; hoping the inspector will overlook it? Quite simply, what is the building industry doing to compromise and discuss alternatives to plan review, permit issuance, and code barriers you see on your side of things? Cause I hear crickets! Why is the quality of residential products under tighter scrutiny like never before from consumers? Why are we seeing homeowner after homeowner upset after home inspection results? Results that often indicate simple items builders can address if they have a QA/QC program with experienced people walking sites before inspections are requested. My point (I’ve made on several other builders posts) is that we need people involved in the entire process to work together on these to explain reasoning for the claimed delays from builders on obtaining permits. Planners, code officials, fire marshal’s, developers, home builders, contractors, lawmakers, architects, engineers and energy code experts (+ others I haven’t mentioned) need to be in these tough but necessary discussions, together. - These are my own views and opinions and not the views or opinions of the City of Bothell or Edmonds College #builder #developer #workingtogether #findingsolutions #codeofficial #planreview #inspections #planner #firemarshal #energycode #permits #architect #engineer #biaw
Then make it easier to build housing in the County.
