How are we closing the #digitaldivide? I usually answer this proudly by saying "the hard way." But the hard way is also....very dangerous. I believe that the #digitaldivide is a very serious problem for our entire country. And as such, I believe it needs to be closed very quickly. I applaud all those who make efforts to close the #digitaldivide. And I especially applaud those doing it by building #fiber. And I especially admire those who do it with #fiber and find a way to do it on a scale and magnitude that is meaningful. For those that know, we have built a LOT of #fiber in the past few years (and connected thousands). And the only way we can do this successfully is if we do it safely. Are there other to close the #digitaldivide that don't put others in harm's way? 🤔 Well....the only danger-free (ish) way for any other ISP to connect people is if you use someone else's physical and/or active network (*cough #openaccess *cough *#wholesaleaccess *cough). And even if you're using someone else's #copper (#TPIA, etc) or #fiber, someone still had to build it in the first place. Our industries' builders don't get the credit they deserve.
Thank you to the Professor ie. Ignatious Rozario and David McLeod for representing team Canadian Fiber Optics at the Utility Safety Partners industry recognition awards. It is always nice to see our industry peers recognize the incredible efforts by our team to close the #digitaldivide. In this case being nominated and win this Excavator of the year award. Another great testimony to our team in the field and at our head office who have build more fiber in rural communities than any other company in Western Canada last year.. by a long shot. Also call or CLICK-BEFORE-YOU DIG... ! Utility strikes are still far too common .. #ruralbroadband #telecom #construction #hdddrilling #ftth #albertabusiness #onecall

Federal program to help NVTC identify locations for 'on-route' recharging of electric buses Arlington, Va. - A federal program will provide free technical assistance to The Northern Virginia Transportation Commission (NVTC) to analyze how local public transit agencies in Northern Virginia could share infrastructure that allows electric buses to recharge while running their routes. "On-route charging" enables buses to recharge their batteries on the go, rather than having to return to a garage to plug in, potentially extending the range of the buses. That could improve reliability and lower infrastructure costs for battery electric buses (BEB). Read more in the link: https://lnkd.in/d75h2Kvy
