Excellent read from Alejandro Badia, MD as he was featured in the Miami Herald commentary section on January 4, 2024, providing his views on the public's role in health care - article is called "It’s not just insurance to blame for US healthcare woes. We have to look at ourselves | Opinion". Employers, he is speaking to you....you must assume responsibility here because you have contributed to the unprecedented wealth you have created for the insurance companies, hospitals, pharmaceuticals, and Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBM). Enhance your benefits and earn $573 per W2 employee per year! _________ Employee dissatisfaction due to rising healthcare costs and reduced health insurance plan options is a significant issue for U.S. employers. There's simply no evidence that 60 years wasted building vertically and horizontally integrated segregating, rationing and inequitably subsidized mega-profitable health insurance conglomerates, has improved most Americans preventive, medical, surgical or palliative care access, outcomes or costs. Captiating physicians reimbursement, enrolling everyone on highly rationed Medicare Advantage HMO's or inventing another hair-brained insurer-biased 'value based care plan' aint gonna fix the problem. Only by neutralizing the profits of the health insurers utilizing the tried and proven Bismark Healthcare Model will all Americans gain access to quality affordable private insured and private FFS manufactured medical care with better outcomes, costs and access than America. Germans, Swiss, Japanese, Netherlands and other capitalistic democratic nations enjoy this utility, why can't Americans? Read about Bismarck Model healthcare here: https://lnkd.in/evX8nur

This is a thought-provoking article featured in JAMA authored by Katherine Baicker that I really wanted to share with you all. The article discusses the slowdown in healthcare spending growth, which has created room in budgets for other priorities but may also lead to reduced innovation and lower quality of care. Key points include: - Employer-provided health insurance covers over half of all individuals in the US, but it may be less inclined to invest in long-term health due to employee turnover. - Insurers aim to minimize spending, potentially limiting coverage of expensive high-value care. - Patients may struggle to discern the generosity of coverage until they are sick, and the benefits of treatment may not manifest for many years. One potential solution could be mandating full coverage of high-value treatments for patients or using new data analytics to incentivize coverage of care that improves patient outcomes in the long run. These approaches could improve the availability and affordability of care and incentivize ongoing medical innovation. The article goes into much detail and is quite insightful! https://lnkd.in/e3nmWwmD

In Chapter 9 of Onward Wisconsin, Daniel Sem and Scott Niederjohn explore health care market dynamics and reform tradeoffs. 🔍 Key Points • Demand: Health care is a necessity with inelastic demand, often paid by insurance, reducing price shopping. • Supply: Physician scarcity and regulations increase costs. ⚖️ Health Care Trilemma Affordability, access, and risk insulation—systems usually achieve only two: • British/Canadian: affordability + risk insulation, limited access. • American: access + risk mitigation, high prices. 💡 Direct Primary Care (DPC) DPC offers affordable, accessible care for most common issues via a monthly fee. 📝 Reform Principles: 1. Consumer choice in providers/services. 2. Insurance for major expenses. 3. Private insurance options. 4. Promote health savings accounts and DPC. 5. Voucher-based Medicare/Medicaid. 6. Transparent pricing. Explore Chapter 9 for more! 📘

Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands and Japan and other Democratic capitalistic nations ensure access for all their citizens to quality affordable private insured and private fee for service manufactured medical care at a fraction of the cost of America’s insurance centric healthcare mess with better outcomes and costs and more hospitals per capita than in America. They achieve this simply by making health insurers profit-neutralized utilities instead of luxuries. It’s called the Bismarck HC model and it works. Read about it here; Health Care Systems - Four Basic Models https://lnkd.in/evX8nur

💰 There has been unprecedented increases across all 3 Irish health insurers over the last 18 months, and it does not appear to be slowing down. The most recent being Irish Life Health announcing hikes on corporate plans effective from July 1st. They are applying these increases as a direct result of a significant increase in the volume and size of claims in private and hi-tech hospitals. 💡 If any of my Benefits or HR contacts have their company renewal approaching - please do reach out to us here at NFP, an Aon company (Ireland) for a comprehensive review of your private medical scheme to ensure you are obtaining the best value plans for your employees. Employer-sponsored insurance (ESI) covers around 180 million people, accounting for more than $1 trillion in health spending annually. However, significant challenges in cost, quality, and equity persist. In Milken Institute's latest survey, "Reimagining the Future of Employer-Sponsored Health Care to Drive Value," the findings show the need for employers to explore opportunities to improve health outcomes. Highlights from the survey posted by @Scott Wooldridge at BenefitsPRO indicate that average health insurance premiums increased by 7% for single coverage and nearly 25% for families. Despite significant healthcare spending, outcomes in the U.S. fall short compared to peer countries, with the lowest life expectancy and highest rates of avoidable deaths, maternal and infant mortality, and suicide. At PeopleOne Health, we believe employers should drive affordable healthcare through accountable care strategies such as expanding preventive care, improving primary care access, and prioritizing whole-person health, benefiting both employees and beneficiaries.
