Over the last two days, the ACT Uganda Forum has convened a capacity strengthening workshop on Gender Justice, Women's Economic Empowerment, and Advocacy. ACT Forum Coordinator, Irene, shared how members "strengthened one another's capacity, learned from our contexts and were able to drive forward collaboration as a national forum." "The concept of ‘safety and security’ is often seen only through the lens of violent conflict and militarisation, and indeed both are on the rise. For women and girls, these realities hit their bodies, their choices and their personal safety first." - 2024 SDG Gender Index Last week, the 2024 Gender Index was published by Equal Measures 2030, which evidences the progress towards #GenderEquality, and for 1 billon women and girls, the stalling or going backwards. By showcasing where progress is happening – and where it isn’t – the Index aims to drive action on gender equality such that momentum towards equality becomes resilient, sustainable, and, ultimately, unstoppable. ❤️ We have enjoyed working with ACT Alliance members and partners to co-convene a Side Event at the 57th Human Rights Council next week. The event will examine the requirements of meaningful implementation of Security Council 1325 and 2475 resolutions. 🕊 Examples of how to increase diversity in peace-building processes, including full, equal and meaningful participation of women and girls, will be shared by Ambassadors, UN Agencies, and community-based actors, including faith-based. 🗓 For Geneva based followers, please join us for this in-person event on 10th September 2024!

This week, Dr Marianna Leite (ACT Alliance) and Stefano Filipuzzi (ACT Alliance EU - European NGO Network) discuss the care conundrum and how gender justice and economic justice are deeply intertwined. Safeguarding is not a tick-box activity, it requires the strengthening of our policies, guidelines and training to ensure the well-being and protection from harm for all. We, the ACT Alliance Gender Justice Programme, collaborated with the Safeguarding Community of Practice and ACT Quality, Accountability Reference Group, and our membership to broaden the scope of the ACT Safeguarding Policy, develop guidelines and create a new FABO blended learning course, to revitalise our practices and accountability mechanisms. Gender justice is mainstreamed in the #ACTAlliance safeguarding policy, guidance and training. This is one of the steps on #TheRoad2Equality, to ensure we #LeaveNoOneBehind.
