On #EqualPayDay, globally, the gender pay gap stands at 20 per cent, meaning women women workers earn on average 80 per cent of what men earn. Some of the reasons why pay inequalities exist: 👉 Deeply ingrained inequalities 👉 Women doing 3 more hours of daily care work than men 👉 Restrictive, traditional gender roles 👉 Discriminatory hiring practices preventing women in leadership We echo #UNWomen Economic Empowerment Chief, Dr. Jemimah Njuki, call that, “The gender pay gap requires all stakeholders, including employers, governments, trade unions take full responsibility and work side by side to address these challenges. Women deserve equal pay for work of equal value”. Over the last two days, the ACT Uganda Forum has convened a capacity strengthening workshop on Gender Justice, Women's Economic Empowerment, and Advocacy. ACT Forum Coordinator, Irene, shared how members "strengthened one another's capacity, learned from our contexts and were able to drive forward collaboration as a national forum." We believe in the power of collaborative action, which responds to the context and is locally-led on #TheRoad2Equality. #FaithInGenderJustice #SDG5 #SDG17 #ACTAlliance #Uganda #ForumDriven #EconomicJustice

"The concept of ‘safety and security’ is often seen only through the lens of violent conflict and militarisation, and indeed both are on the rise. For women and girls, these realities hit their bodies, their choices and their personal safety first." - 2024 SDG Gender Index Last week, the 2024 Gender Index was published by Equal Measures 2030, which evidences the progress towards #GenderEquality, and for 1 billon women and girls, the stalling or going backwards. By showcasing where progress is happening – and where it isn’t – the Index aims to drive action on gender equality such that momentum towards equality becomes resilient, sustainable, and, ultimately, unstoppable. The report includes a #blueprint for governments to advance #GenderEquality: 👉 Elevate women's and girls' leadership, power and voice 👉 Reform and apply equality laws and policies 👉 Promote 'data feminism' and close gender-sensitive data gaps 👉 Increase resources for and investments in public services and social infrastructures, including care 👉 Recognise and respond to the unique needs and life stage of adolescent girls and young women 👉 Invest in and create space for feminist organisations and movements 👉 Centre gender equality and justice at the heart of international solidarity and cooperation Find out more on the Equal Measures 2030 website: https://lnkd.in/gCktRM5j #TheRoad2Equality #FaithInGenderJustice #SDG5 #Backlashes #GenderIndex

This week, Dr Marianna Leite (ACT Alliance) and Stefano Filipuzzi (ACT Alliance EU - European NGO Network) discuss the care conundrum and how gender justice and economic justice are deeply intertwined. Achieving true economic justice requires, among other things, addressing the systemic inequalities that perpetuate gender disparities on #TheRoad2Equality. #FaithInGenderJustice #TheRoad2Equality #TaxJustice #EconomicJustice #UnpaidCare #SDG5 #ACTAlliance

On 19-20 June 2024, Project dldl/ድልድል held its #Annual #Conference #2024 on #Domestic #Violence, #Religion and #Migration. The aim of the conference was to build bridges between domestic violence and abuse (#DVA) researchers, secular #service #providers, #religious #institutions and #‘by and #for’ #organisations catering to specific religio-cultural communities to move the conversation around #faith-#sensitive and #culturally #appropriate responses in the UK forward and to delineate a concrete roadmap of priority areas to be addressed collectively by the sector. It also sought to enlarge #knowledge and good practices in the UK by channelling into the conversations knowledge and experience from numerous #African countries, including #Ethiopia and #South #Africa. We are pleased to share a Conference Brief titled 'A #Roadmap for Integrating Cultural and Religious Diversity in UK Domestic Violence and Abuse Services' compiled by Dr Romina Istratii, Dr Natalia Paszkiewicz and Dr Mahmoud Ali Gomaa Afifi with review and contributions by many of the speakers and participants. The brief summarises some of the key discussions and offers some #directions for #action that could be taken by domestic violence and abuse (DVA) service providers, policy makers, religious institutions and community advocates in the UK to promote a better integration of religious and cultural diversity in DVA services. The brief can be accessed directly here: https://lnkd.in/e75FYXdZ It can also be downloaded from our Conference Outcomes page: https://lnkd.in/ed2Qbn35 We hope that this proves helpful to anyone working on integrating cultural and religious sensitivity in domestic violence services and responses in the UK and internationally. A bit shout out to Camille Aubry for the illustrations and Benjamin Kalkum for the beautiful layout.
